Land Deemed Suitable

I have received my FAC through the post yesterday, looking forward to get out hopefully this weekend to zero etc, my question is, i have a good friend who's a landowner, he had his FAC last year and the land cleared for .223. Would it be fine for me to go setup my gun there, knowing that the land is cleared for my calibre for a fact, or should i always put it to my feo first? I rent a shed on this land so would be brilliant if i could setup there instead of the land i put with my application

Do you have a .223?

Conditioned to be used on land deemed suitable by chief of police, so i know for a fact the land im on about has been deemed suitable in march 2024, but wandering should i still run it past my feo

Yes mate that's what ive been granted
If it is cleared for .223 and you have permission I would go ahead.
If he has a zeroing area use that but check it your self also make sure ALL the scope screws are tight and the mod is not loose
As the next post will be "Can't get a decent zero"

Personally I use 50 yds get the L-R spot on then sort out the height then you are only spinning one plate at a time.

He does have a zeroing area which will be handy, thanks for that advice, while i have shot rifles before and confident with that side of things, setting one up will be totally new to me so that's a good pointer

All the above is true and is how we have all understood the situation to be for many years.

However, Hampshire seem not to view things this way any more. They would still want you to send in a land form if your certificate is issued by them. Makes no sense at all, but just a warning.

Madness, making more work for themselves. You could be shooting in a quarry cleared for 338 and still make a dangerous shot with a rimfire.

OP: if in doubt email your FEO, purely as an ass covering exercise. I'd copy BASC into the email stating what a waste of time and resources repeating a procedure which has already been done - that way next time your force complains about funding or resources BASC have evidence.

Hampshire wanted me to get them to check the ground I stalk on at last renewal… they know not what they speak of!! My FAC has been open for many years!

I would bore sight first then as others have said zero at 25 so at least you are on paper at 100

Are them laser bore sighters any good?
Bore sighting is no different in centring your eye to a scope just a bit crude,
You will be relying on centring your eye for shooting (good cheek weld) each time so best get that off to pat than spending cash/time on a gadget.
Like a good shotgun mount your face/eye need to be in the same place each time then you won't be searching through the scope.

Don't presume, get the FEO to turn up and do the "deeming" if your FLD won't trust you to use your own judgement!

The "deeming" has already been done, according to the OP. About a year ago. Why would you ask them to do it again?
Yeah i rent a shed on the farm for my agri engineering business and am there almost everyday and all my mate ever talks about is rifles and shooting so there's no doubting that they have deemed it suitable, i was more concerned if there could be any comebacks because i personally haven't officially checked with them if i make sense. It would seem to be a waste of resources but wouldnt want to fall foul of the conditions, i may for avoidance of doubt ask the feo how to approach it, as he's been brilliant throughout the application
