Land Rover!

Just seen on the news…Jaguar Land Rover are recalling over 170,000 Landies in the USA due to an engine management fault that could lead to total loss of power and the lights go out.
Wouldn’t be pleasant on an unlit I Road at night.

What Land Rover, Jaguar models are affected?

The recall affects 170,169 vehicles of the following makes and models:

  • 2021-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Discovery
  • 2020-2023 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
  • 2019-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • 2020-2024 Lan Rover Range Rover
  • 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender
  • 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace
  • 2021-2022 Jaguar E-Pace mild-hybrid electric vehicles
The agency said the DC-DC converter can fail due to an internal fault in the boost control microchip. A failure of the DC-DC converter will result in a loss of 12-Volt system charging and can lead to complete loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

I follow a few mechanics on YouTube and it would seem these power converters are a major issue and an expensive fix. I wonder if the recall will extend to UK?

The Discovery Sport would be just perfect for my needs, just too much of a ticking time bomb reliability wise.

They should be recalled here in the UK I’ve had a few in with this fault the unit is 2K fault shows at a faulty alternator

Without wishing to tempt fate, my 2017 DS is now at 118k (bought secondhand at 80k) and is on its original engine. It's proven to be a perfect stalking vehicle (see my posts elsewhere) and a worthy successor to my 2010 Freelander 2 which I very strongly rated.

My brother and my niece both run new petrol/hybrid DS and also rate them highly (well beasted on LR off-road courses too). When the time comes, that's where I'm going :thumb:

Ironically a friends F Pace had a very similar fault to this. Changed everything and nothing worked last week they found that a mouse had eaten through the wiring loom when it was parked at the airport carpark.

Mice target all cars, i have seen plenty that had the loom chewed, insulation trashed for bedding, air filter filled with seeds
😂 I know, although in nearly 50 years I’ve never seen it. Was said slightly tongue in cheek with the notion that perhaps JLR are blaming mice for it in the U.K. to put their poor product failures back on the consumer - it does seem like something they’d do

I’ve seen rats take out fords too…

I do believe the mice in the Jag though as it was found by an independent garage.

Wonder why that’s not been broadcast then?
KB.
They won’t broadcast it as was the power steering rack fault the module was secured to the steering rack with three aluminium bolts water would get between the module and rack mounting then winter arrives the water freezes bolts shear and the module drops off they recalled all the cars in Canada to replace the bolts but it was kept quite in the UK now it’s fairly common knowledge you can push JLR for a rack

Hi.
Is your DS 2.0 Ingenium? I did consider a petrol version as my local journeys would kill pretty much any modern diesel. My current Grand Cherokee has no DPF etc. Euro 4 i think.

I really like Land Rover products, they design a really nice vehicle, just a shame Honda or Toyota did not build them.

Yes, it's the 2.0 Igniboom engine 🤭 So far so good 🤗 Some pictures in various posts in this thread:

I have a respectable LR 110DC XS with full Safety Devices roll cage for sale for anyone concerned about taking their eye of the ball on motorway or a green lane. Correctly installed too, as in connected to chassis rather than bolted to the wings for visual impact only!

Me too. I'd like another V8 petrol Range Rover but given their poor reliability there's no way I'd hand over a wad of cash for one. Especially so given the remote mountain country I drive in which is where I go as a solo vehicle with just me and dog on board to hunt sambar. A breakdown and recovery would cost some thousands of dollars and that's before any repairs are undertaken.
