Landig tips

Hello everyone - I have just taken delivery of an LU7000 from Game Larder. I am waiting for the rest of the order (half shelves) so I have the option of using this as a conventional fridge (overflow) when we have more mouths to feed.

Can any experienced landig users give me any tips on how to fit roe in to the fridge in th most efficient way? Presumably gambrels waste space? On hook per deer or two? Do I stack them in a line or alternate them so it’s one facing in then one out? If I pack them too close does it affect airflow? I’ve tried a few methods (photos below). Very impressed with the washable coating.

Thanks,

Speak to @Tim.243 for some of his hangers, you won’t get a more efficient way than that

I have made a few hangers to fit that type of unit, re height the differance is this.

This is my LU7000 with 2 skinned Roe in it.
The most efficient way to hang them is to use large S hooks. I got mine from Butchers Sundries Supplies.

Unrelated but I have seen your post elsewhere advertising the carcasses, Why are you selling them so cheap !?!

Hi yes I’ve had that feedback from a few others. The last few I’ve tried to sell haven’t had any interest so I’ve dropped the price. No game dealers seem to take an interest here, in roe anyway. However with the Landig I can wait longer for the right buyer. Fair point though. I’m normally giving it away to friends of family butchered so if anyone wants them in the fur, it’s a bonus!

Got to admit it is really difficult to sell deer privately, no in any sort of numbers anyway. I live near a city of over 250,000, and there are some responses from that FB page, but the majority want butchered venison, not whole carcasses.

Hanging from the aitch bone is only of benefit when you don't have the height for hanging from the hock. Might be useful if you are going to hang larger deer but I don't see any benefit in your current situation as you have plenty of height for Roe. Packing them tighter will restrict air flow but that's only going to be an issue if you are putting warmer deer in with chilled ones and then chilling for longer periods. If you are happy to pack them tighter then alternate, hang some the by the hock and some by the aitch bone. That's what I normally do.

Hi @kieran222 that’s really useful and kind of confirmed what I was thinking about height.

Hi @Tim.243 - thanks also for the tips above, really useful. I love reading your write ups too keep up the good work!

Harry.

My take on this is Landig seek to promote a deer lardering-specific product for cold storage of all UK species that in reality is governed (some would say handicapped/restricted) by refrigeration product dimensions that are wedded to the cold drinks and professional catering industry.

If this is not the case and every aspect of product manufactue is 100% in-house, why are they not offering refrigeration units given of an internal height that would allow fallow, sika and reds to hang over, rather than dragging within, a blood collection drip tray?

That will be a cost factor as to make them so people can easy fit the larger deer in when the small "home market" is just that small.
People shooting a low number of larger deer simply "make do" or invest in a larger unit.
You can with a bit of know how fit big deer in a 1m square chiller, what size is you chiller Richard?

The L11000 has an internal height of 2320mm so plenty of height for a Red to not touch the drip tray

Of course unit dimensions are a cost factor but my point is Landig seek to offer a deer industry-specific peice of kit that is some way from being truly fit for purpose at my reading. Other than a pleasing internal arrangement for hanging deer I can see little in the construction of their units that differ from a domestic or commercial upright fridge.

I've just scrapped a pair of modified Williams commercial fridges that were given to me some 15-years ago by an Organisation who must remain nameless.

There a number of models whose dimensions are appropriate to certain deer species, so its crucial to order which one will suit your needs best. They are very expensive for what they are certainly.

What is it about them that you think is not fit for purpose?

What have you replaced them with as that might shed more light on your reason for posting about the failings of other types of units.

I'm happy to stand corrected. In my defence I've never been able to access the Landig website due to a site 'security' issue and if people were ordering a "model" appropriate to the make of deer they shoot, there wouldn't be so many posts about internal height issues on this site.
