Landrover defender owners input...

Thanks a lot folks, some comprehensive replies which are more helpful than the usual "get one they're great" or "no they're sh1t"

I am going to look at a 300tdi 90 tomorrow and taking a landrover enthusiast and an engineer with me. I'm not concerned by the lack of luxuries, nor by the driving position which I actually don't find that bad, for whatever reason. It will need to get me to work daily, which is 12 miles of rural A and B roads, and take me out on a weekend to go shooting/beating/stalking/dog walking, etc. It won't need to do long motorway slogs or accommodate family road trips, etc as the wife will always have a car that does that stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Navara, but it's dull...
Should do what you want without breaking a sweat

I have a series 2 bonnet with the wheel depression as a build start. Oh and 2 rhd headlights off of a LR lightweight, hate to just throw them all in the skip. They are in Bavaria though, I might be back in the UK next Feb.

I’m a little rusty, some of my seals have gone and joints are worn apart from that I too am in pretty good condition for over 60 years old. 😂😂

A 300tdi 90 hardtop 👍🏻
Needs a fair bit of cosmetic TLC (new rear door, possible rear quarter panels and a touch up of some paintwork) and I'd like to put a cubby box in place of the middle seat but structurally very good and has had a fair bit invested already.
Rear crossmember done?

I have had 8 new defenders not a bad tub and hold their money well (if you can keep hold of them) Run a Dmax now would not go back for a gold clock I would buy a reck without hesitation and rebuild it.
no way would I drive it up to Caithness now, it would be my Sunday car.

Congrats of getting the car you wanted. There's no feeling like it :tiphat:

That's true... I've wanted a Defender since I was little 😁
Felt the same way when I left the show room with a 300tdi Disco 1

Ok Simon, so now the honeymoon comments are over, lets get down to it .......
Hmm a 90 🤔 Ok for carrying your sarnies or a bag of groceries but as a working / sporting truck ....

We should start a poll on how long after your 90 & its refurb are in regular use is you swap it for a 110/Defender.
There'll be more room in your wife's handbag than in the 90 :stir:

I would like a 110 station wagon eventually, maybe. But at the moment I don't need the extra seats and there'll be plenty of room for what I need. Besides, I don't think I'd get a 110 on my drive, with their titanic-like turning circle and the way folk park around here...

Not to mention grounding every time you get into some serious off-road terrain, the difference in load bed is inches.
Just put a set of decent aggressive tyres (Insa Turbos) on and you can go anywhere.
