Lapua Naturalis

Hi
Just got my 30-06. Trying different rounds with the aim that I'm trying to find a round that will deal with all deer types with distance under 150m (I know probably I need different weights for species). However, at 100 yards found the Lapua 180gn Naturalis grouped superbly well (under an inch). Has anyone used these on deer and do they do a lot of meat damage (assuming the deer is hit in the engine room)? The alternatives so far are RWS HIT which grouped ok, and I've some Norma 165gn on order. Just wanted to know what the opinions were?

If you get the chance do your own expansion testing. Doesn't take much equipment and then you get valid results for your rifle and shooting distance.

I was using some factory 308 win 180 gr Lapua Naturalis years ago. I found them to be very tough bullets, capable of taking very large stuff. Very little meat damage. Perhaps too tough for smaller deer and thus not ideal. I use 6.5×55 now and do not use Naturalis anymore because the legal minimum requirement for hunting red deer and wild boar here is 2500 J at 100 m and the 140 gr Naturalis is way below that. I mostly use Fox 123 gr now and I like them even better. They are lighter, faster and have enough kinetic energy to meet our legal requirements. Plus they are softer bullets, made in country and constructed for our hunting needs and work great also on smaller roe deer (our country has a large roe deer population)..
