Great day and lovely result but the dumping is a disgrace. Trail camera or two methinks - just a couple of signs warning of their presence worked for us a couple of years ago - haven’t seen a tyre since.Well, it's a wrap.
The end of another season. Today's walk-up ended up being just me, the Farmer and my dog.
Notwithstanding that we delayed the start time by an hour, another of the Guns was unable to make it.
The drive with the "Horse `Lady" was a blank. Of course it was. She had been informed, the horses were safe and the birds where nowhere to be seen.
The next drive caught us both out. A small triangle of cover that produced a flush of about fifteen birds. We both managed to get off four shots but to no disernable effect. I pricked a Hen, marked it and searched high and low for it. Vanished.
Third drive sees me waste two shots at a Cock Pheasant - the farmer 'wipes my eye' with his one shot. At least we have not blanked.
We pause for a bottle of beer and pork pie. Simple fare but it is much enjoyed. The dog is watered and given some food.
Gully drive sees the Farmer drop a Hen - which falls into the thickest bit of brambles in the county.
We pause the sport to collect more dumped oil. The feckers that are doing this, throw them into a stream with no thought to the poisoning of the water.
Absolute cnuts. We gather them up and place them were they and some tyres can be cleaned away by the council. Again.
Pushing on through the Duck Pond wood, we flush Woodcock and Partridge but no Pheasants.
We then surround the "Middle Pond" (can you surround anything with two Guns?) and send the dog in. Out flushed is a Hen. The Farmer lets it have both barrels and she flies on unscathed. I let loose with a shot and down she comes. Honours even.
A final drive over the pen area sees the day done without any further addition to the bag.
So two Guns, one dog, three hours for a total of 3 Pheasants.
I have enjoyed the day, notwithstanding I have seen the best and worst of the countryside.
Anyhoo.
Now, to the winner.
Closest guess to the bag of 3 was from @Quarrybank who went with 4 + 1.
He has a PM.
For those that guessed - thank you - I am sorry so many of you went to so high.

I reckon I qualify as a youngster!!!!Well @Quarrybank has responded to my PM.
He has very kindly suggested that the 1st Prize could go to some youngster, just starting out.
He has suggested this without even knowing what the 1st Prize was.
So, is there any youngster out there, that would like to join our little Hunting syndicate this October/November out in Mozambique - all expenses paid?
Only joking @Quarrybank - your package will be in the the Post Office tomorrow.![]()
Me, me, me! But only if I can travel by tardis.......Well @Quarrybank has responded to my PM.

I do not enjoy flying.Me, me, me! But only if I can travel by tardis...
No need to report. So, for once, for perhaps the only time ever, I am going Business Class.
Will happily report back on whether or not the additional expense is worth it...
Just felt a little bit awkward agreeing to the 'upgrade'. With me doing so, it is three of us 'up front' and one of us in steerage. It just so is.

However, if I had not committed to "Business Class", I would have been dreading the flight from this day until the end of October when we are due to fly out.
And then, dreading the return flight all the way through our safari.
I know it is a wad of dosh, but I think if I had left it until I was three hours in 'steerage' I would willingly pay double to get out and into Business.
The internal flight is steerage but that is only four hours long - London to Jo'Burg is a whole world of pain.

Brilliant.Well @Quarrybank has responded to my PM.
