Edit. Just realised this was released 5 days ago. Apologies if already posted here, but I'd not seen any mention.
Perhaps the International Olympic Committee might take the view that lead is not compatible with the healthy image of the Olympic Games and also remove lead ammunition from competition.Youtube video posted last week indicates they're pushing for a total lead ban which will affect us all and all but end UK chances in international competition shooting. Olympic committee are not too happy as it means withdrawing our shooting teams from future Olympics.
And what is the problem with using current available technology for 22lr for smallbore competition shooting? None.Perhaps the International Olympic Committee might take the view that lead is not compatible with the healthy image of the Olympic Games and also remove lead ammunition from competition.
This may require a redisign of some competitions and competition rifles. Full bore rifles and clay pigeon shooting - there are already good solutions.
For small bore it would require a change in barrel twist and ammo.
And its not just the UK that is going lead free.
In many other Olympic disciplines there is a constant change and adaptation of equipment and what is and isn’t allowed.
But equally why British olympic pistol shooters have to travel to Northern Ireland to be allowed to practice is just ………
Edit
Keeping an eye on developments. Cutting Edge Bullets have just announced a 32gn copper bullet suitable for use in 1:16” barrel twist rate. Clever people are working on solutions so its not all doom and gloom. May take a bit more time, but technology is getting there.

If you look at the last Commonwealth Games and the removal of shooting events I think it’s apparent that these competitions are working to remove shooting events anyway.Youtube video posted last week indicates they're pushing for a total lead ban which will affect us all and all but end UK chances in international competition shooting. I've no sympathy anyway with this self appointed coterie of some Olympic shooters. Happy enough to shoot pistols at the 2012 London Games whilst the rest of Great Britain had lost their right to pistol shooting back in 1998. The British pistol shooters of 2012 could have made a hugely visible gesture of turning up on the day and then benching their pistols and walking off the range to show solidarity with those of us that lost our handguns. They didn't. So if Olympic shooters think I have any sympathy with them then they think wrong. If there is to be a lead ban then ALL must suffer it for where...now...here...in the media are those Olympic shooters protesting about this proposed ban? There must be no exemption for them. They do not deserve one.If you look at the last Commonwealth Games and the removal of shooting events I think it’s apparent that these competitions are working to remove shooting events anyway.
No one reloads .22LR and the low cost is part of the reason people own it. These boutique bullets will never provide a viable alternative.Perhaps the International Olympic Committee might take the view that lead is not compatible with the healthy image of the Olympic Games and also remove lead ammunition from competition.

Its so bad for you they bathe your sweated brow with water from lead pipes! No one reloads .22LR and the low cost is part of the reason people own it. These boutique bullets will never provide a viable alternative.
Lead shot and bullets shot at targets in the open air is bit bad for your health!!
Correct. I think it ran in Scotland (Glasgow) the shooting events were at Barry Buddon (Dundee) miles away from the main event where they could have set up suitable venues if they wanted to and from memory none were televised. If you look at the last Commonwealth Games and the removal of shooting events I think it’s apparent that these competitions are working to remove shooting events anyway.
I'll be honest, I think you need to get a bloody grip.Perhaps the International Olympic Committee might take the view that lead is not compatible with the healthy image of the Olympic Games and also remove lead ammunition from competition.

Conversely if the British pistol shooters had won Gold, or any medals, which from memory they didn’t, it could have been a platform to be used to promote the sport and look, with enough lobbying, to revisit the ban, at least for .22 target.I've no sympathy anyway with this self appointed coterie of some Olympic shooters. Happy enough to shoot pistols at the 2012 London Games whilst the rest of Great Britain had lost their right to pistol shooting back in 1998. I worked the Glasgow games, requested the shooting events but got put at Tollcross for the swimming. Frankly I’d have felt safer surrounded by people with guns.Correct. I think it ran in Scotland (Glasgow) the shooting events were at Barry Buddon (Dundee) miles away from the main event where they could have set up suitable venues if they wanted to and from memory none were televised.
I don’t think people should be allowed pistols anyway - can’t think of a single good reason to have one, I’ve never been allowed one so that’s pretty much proven I don’t need one!I've no sympathy anyway with this self appointed coterie of some Olympic shooters. Because shooting them is a sh*t load of fun!I don’t think people should be allowed pistols anyway - can’t think of a single good reason to have one, I’ve never been allowed one so that’s pretty much proven I don’t need one!
To logically extend your argument people shouldn’t be allowed vehicles as there’s perfectly good public transport. It’s a little word we all take for granted but better men and women died to protect, freedom.I don’t think people should be allowed pistols anyway - can’t think of a single good reason to have one, I’ve never been allowed one so that’s pretty much proven I don’t need one!
Absolutely agree. In fact nobody should be allowed any firearms of I type I myself don't use and even then only under the strictest of licensing regulations.I don’t think people should be allowed pistols anyway - can’t think of a single good reason to have one, I’ve never been allowed one so that’s pretty much proven I don’t need one!
There never was any chance of that. At all. The only benefit would have been a grand gesture.Conversely if the British pistol shooters had won Gold
Well - I’m all fairness I do see that as a valid point.Because shooting them is a sh*t load of fun!
