Lead update.

Still not reading my reply. But lets forget that and move on.

However the important thing is, you feel let down by the shooting organisations (that you are no longer a member of). But I have some questions.

When you were a member, did you ever actively take part in that organisation; locally, regionally or nationally?
Did you use your right to vote for members of the council that best suited your views and aims?
Did you ever even write to your local representative to voice your views when you were a member? (If you cannot answer yes to at least some of the above then I don't know why you feel let down.)
Do you know if the majority of members in those various organisation are for or against a voluntary move away from lead? (That would be good question for the organisations).
Do you know if generally the shooting community is for or against a voluntary move away from lead? (At the end of the day the membership of SD is a very small sample of the wider shooting community and there are some that support a ban and if you read the threads, many that already use non-lead ammunition).
If you feel there is a majority of shooters that don't want a ban on lead, could you and others with the same view, not get together and organise a lobbying group to take your argument to the HSE and government? It would cost you some money but so does membership of a shooting organisation.

AS an extra thought and just to play devils advocate. Do the general public not have some say in the use of lead ammunition? You could argue that as it potentially (percievably) affects them, they should have a say.

I Do understand your frustration with this issue. I think unfortunately shooting, especially in the UK is under so much pressure from many directions. On a personal level I think my old clay shooting club where I was a member for over 30 years, will fall victim to a ban and have to close. It is on an SSSI and there is no chance of either recovering lead or plastic wads. Biowads would maybe be an option but the majority of members would probably not pay for them.

I simply cannot get my head round why people - particularly those shooting game - as to why the cost of bio wads is even relevant

I agree. I can understand more with clay pigeon shooting. I used to go through around 2000 rounds a year (4000-5000 at one point). But hopefully as more manufacturers increase production of biowads then the price will come down.

Cost of Biowads in game ammunition. Maybe I’ve not been paying attention (quite likely) but I don’t think that’s been a major factor in the discussion. More relevant is availability of such ammo (in the required volume) and its effectiveness?

It was in relation to the point above Mike

We have found no supply issues at all - and very effective

I believe there is solid scientific evidence that lead is a poisonous substance and this legislation stems from that. I mean if you could remove a toxic substance from shooting with no negative consequences you’d do it right. I suppose the issue is if there are effective alternatives. I think there are and some think there are not. That’s fine although I think often people have never seriously tried the alternatives and formed an opinion before using them. Anyway you make some good points.
if you frame the tests correctly, pretty much everything can be found to be injurious.

from reading the various reports - there is a risk of potential exposure from shooting. it's all couched in 'potential' and 'could lead to'. there's no actual evidence of the impact of lead in shooting - of all the exposures we're exposed to in our current environment I'd expect this to be way down the list ( unless of course this is an easy win to price the toffs out of their barbaric practices )

happy to be educated obviously

Surely when steel or other non lead is compulsory the added volume of biowads needed will pull down the unit prices a lot. Jocker seem to have a good paper alternative in production now

I just wish this had a time stamp, and yes, it's banned, or no, it's not ! Paying £1 per copper bullet or .50p over a year is a lot! Also, on the match shooting, buying a 1000 ELD m at ? 63 per box £630.
Or copper what £1000 plus!
The deployment of whatever will be the outcome needs to be planned better and a lead time set in stone for the guy at the bottom on the pile to make plans well ahead .
After all, without us common shooters, they won't be a trade just even more the on line buying.
Ban a product, then your see outlets close as not all can hold every bullet on stock in copper 🫣 the outlay will force the doors closed.
We saw this in the 90s with the pistol ban as pistol smiths closed there doors and shops soon followed in their parth!
Will there be another FCS to collect and repay for items that have been banned ?
The truth is out there. Let's have it, and let's treat us cash cows with some sort of respect and as adults.

If there isn't I do a free recycling service for any bullet in .224" or .308". Also lead cartridges but not steel!
Sign up to my news letter in case the bullets recycling service expands to other calibres 👍🏻.
Totally free too!

It is safe.

Far safer than catching measles, mumps or rubella
I've had Mumps, Measles and Chicken Pox. My sister had Measles, Chicken Pox and German Measles. We were encouraged to 'get it over and done with' in those days, when there were people in the house who knew what had to be done. I had a friend whose daughter's eyesght was affected by Measles because her mother was too drunk to know what to do, keep her indoors!
I asked the original question of someone who has children with Autism.
