Lead update.

Had em all as we all did as kids. When I lived in Somerset we had a fantastic Irish doctor whose words were with chicken pox and mumps" Send them to school, let's get it all over at one go". With measles and GM they stayed at home indoors in the dark.He was a shooting man whose keeper I was for a while.

I agree. I can understand more with clay pigeon shooting. I used to go through around 2000 rounds a year (4000-5000 at one point). But hopefully as more manufacturers increase production of biowads then the price will come down.
Let’s hope so! That’s my concern in regards to clay shooting - lots of people do clay shoot, I vaguely recall that it’s the most popular discipline, and if we end up with £400 for the licence and £500 per 1000 for ammo that’s starting to make it a pricey hobby when you consider that 100 bird sporting is £35-50 a round.

That’s going to put a lot of people off and push them into giving it up.

His name wasn't Fullerton, was it?

This is a repeat of the general licence rout, Wild Justice is using the legal and scientific evidence and associated process to force the change.
You are still running around shouting about lead gutters, natural lead deposits and flashing.
You have utterly failed to derail the specific charges laid against you.
You be Royally screwed.

If there isn't I do a free recycling service for any bullet in .224" or .308". Also lead cartridges but not steel!
Sign up to my news letter in case the bullets recycling service expands to other calibres 👍🏻.
Totally free too!
Don’t want to steal your market but if you get inundated with 224, I’ll take the excess 🤔
I also do the service for 243, 6.5 and 270 but can only do nosler I’m afraid 😉

I was out the last 2 weekends and it’s cost upwards of £300 quid. 1 round on my own and then weekend just gone me and the mrs did a round. It’s starting to hurt!

So the response we need to emphasise is the HSE report itself saying evidence is lacking (based on what others said above). Shooting orgs need to push that, hard, now.
The spineless wonders should pushed that from the beginning.

Unfortunately Britain not being the land of the free they have one arm tied up.
Britain is the land of minority bashers and division masters.

Exactly - I was talking to a mate of mines other half the other week who’s recently taken up clay shooting. She was saying she was really glad he’s found a hobby he loves but she wished it wasn’t so expensive.

At the end of the day this is going to start putting people off taking it up, or putting off those who already do it.

At the very least even if people keep it up they’ll be doing it less, and what’s that going to mean long term for gamekeepers, RFDs and other people who make a living in the industry?

One of the biggest exoduses in target rifle is the 20-40 year old age group, and it’s purely down to the fact that people can’t afford it. When you’re paying £2k for your mortgage, almost the same again for child care, £500 a month on food etc. it doesn’t take long for even ostensibly good incomes to be eaten up.

If we can’t maintain a critical mass of people then it will get to the point where the gubment just says “look there’s no point in us continuing this for fifty thousand people nationally - it’s too much aggro and cost so we’re pulling the plug”. Probably still citing difficult decisions and the £20bn black hole the Tories left… but ultimately at that point they will have achieved the still unstated but very obvious end goal of removing all guns from private ownership.

What's happening is a campaign spearheaded by WWT with support from RSPB, Wildlife and Countryside Link, CHEM Trust and Wild Justice calling for 'a full and swift ban right away’ on the back of the HSE recommendations.

“Throw birds a lifeline and ban toxic lead ammunition”, wildlife experts urge government

@Conor O'Gorman is it clear whether the WWT/WJ etc campaign is to have the government implement the HSE recommendations or to go further and implement a full ban?

I can’t see anything definitive which concerningly suggests they may be wanting to go further.

You got any evidence for this being the reason? Whilst I agree that the cost of living is a factor I suspect it's far more likely that many youngsters are just not interested having not grown up with the idea that guns are potential fun. Outside of the Public Schools where would kids get any exposure to firearms and more importantly their parents will also have none so less probable to influence the kids.
It's the same with motorcycling, largely a preserve of old farts like me.
