I would imagine one of the conditions of the Licence will be to ensure the seller establishes "good reason" for the purchase, and specific to the type of knife.

Simples if its demonstrably a chef's knife but perhaps not so clear cut (sorry) when it comes to some of the kit to be found on certain well known websites.

Would a "collector of fine & interesting knives" cut it?

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility, a ‘Knife dealers licence’ is already required in Scotland. Albeit administered by local councils rather than police.

If this was set up and managed properly, and applied to the correct folk/bodies, then I don't think it a bad idea.

But it won't be, so it is bad, which is shame as it is an opportunity to potentially make a difference.

Thankfully I wouldn't be selling my one of yours, but there's bundles of sales of knives and tools on every bushcraft or EDC page.

That is the thing (one of the things anyway), this is impossible to control and police. Just another way for the powers that be to be seen to be doing the right thing whilst making a quick buck.

I can buy a set of cooking knives at a boot sale and grind them to any profile I want,
