Lots of roe in the sunshine

We went out for a dog walk at lunch time and in 2 hours we saw 24 roe! 7 mature bucks all clean, 5 still in velvet. Lots of does and some at 550 yds couched down that I could see but not sex. First clean buck at 70 yds just watched us as we walked up the lane. Not at all worried! Final doe was only 45yds away. She was moulting but with what looked like scars caused by collision with wire across her chest and back. Most of the roe were still.in winter coats. Lots of photos but on camera. Also watched a fox at 300yds. It was hunting mice and in the bright sunlight clearly visible to the naked eye. Last weekend we saw a group of 7 roe and 2 were looking very scruffy.

That’s the trouble this winter. It’s been so warm they’ve on the fields not in the woods, that’s a problem if you cull in woods and not fields.

Every day for the last week or so, while walking the dogs around 06.00 this buck and doe have been together just 20 metres from a busy road from town centre.
Usually both laying in the sun (When it’s shining) but today the dies was feeding and the buck lying.
Once the doe started to leave the buck was up and off with her.
Not enough deer around here to warrant shooting any.
