Low Alcohol Wine

Must admit I prefer the better quality French wines at about 11% abv, rather than many of the New World 14 or 15% Wines. With a good claret or burgandy you quite happily share a bottle over a meal with a good friend and function well afterwards. With many of the modern wines you are useless after a glass or two.

I work on the basis of drink good wine or cider in moderation. Or don't drink at all in which case my favourite tipple is a whole lemon cut in half and squeezed into a tall glass with a teaspoon of brown sugar. Add crushed ice and topped up with soda or tonic water.

People need to get a grip if you want to reduce your alcohol intake just don’t drink.

I’ve found it helpful on those days I consume less than 5 pints of ale or only 1 bottle of red to class those days as drink free.

Nah , you forgot the double dram...

Agreed low alcohol beer, cider or red wine are on the same level as gluten free bread or vegan mince or burgers.

Don’t kid yourself - drink or eat something is naturally good and tasty and not full of chemicals.

And whats the point if decaf coffee??

Salut! This ^ , trade in claret was what built the 'auld alliance'. Some of the Normandy ciders are fantastic (eg Kerne) and very refreshing, a million miles from some of the stuff on sale here. They also make great calvados there, 'malheureusement' :lol: (-Adrien Camut, DuPont, etc). In between, in terms of strength, look at vieux Pineau de Charentes from the vendee (18% - think smooth elegant chilled cognac but without the strength, P Bossuet, la Rochelle). A midweek manzanilla from Spain is nice too, if you can find the time, hic!

When we were in Norway, we made the mistake of getting low alcohol wine from the supermarket:eek:…….. blo*dy horrible stuff...…. Ended up going into the Alcohol store (carefully hidden by shutters and a darkened doorway to get some normal strength wine, much better! No wonder the Norwegians brew their own hooch and enjoyed the Single Malts we had with us! :)

I found cruelly, that low or non alc beers are seriously worse for piling on weight.

They shouldn't be, as they have roughly 60% less calories than regular beer.
Frinstance;
Shipyard Low Tide IPA 85kcal/500ml
Hobgoblin IPA 220kcal/100ml
The low alc stuff is lower in carbs too but only by 15%
