Loxicom and Yumove

Our old girl Skye (12 years old lab) had been getting increasingly lame on her front rh shoulder so took her to the sawbones and she prescribed Loxicom. At the same time on recommendation from a pal we started her on Yumove (Senior) and the transformation has been incredible - after two days and for the first time in at least 6 months she climbed the stairs to visit me in my man-cave - a delightful (and quite moving) moment for me as this was post-brekkie custom all her life. The question is which has done the trick? Loxicom is “on-prescription” only and pretty expensive stuff with a bit of a reputation for causing kidney issues, whereas Yumove is much cheaper and readily available - including on SD. For us we will keep on with the twin approach and regular vet visits but I wonder how others have fared with their own elderly best friends?

My partner used youmove on one of her old spaniels , it did seem to work. Made her farts smell pretty rank though .
I suppose the only way to find out is to drop the loxi for a week or two and see what happens?

We have an almost 17 years old terrier (the one in my Avatar). He has been on 'Yumove' for a couple of years now after developing some 'joint stiffness'. He appeared to respond well to 'Youmove' so kept him on it. It's less 'toxic' than the alternatives. It may just be coincidence and or good genes, but hey, he is still fit and capable of doing 3 mile walks. As 'Drum123' says, just 'knock of' the Loxi for a week or so and see what happens.

my old dog 12 years gsp hung himself by his back leg 4 years ago, his whole body weight was hanging on one leg. he seemed ok later in season but yje following season he had a limp all the time. i put him on a youmove substitute and his limp was gone within 3 week and stayed that way until three weeks ago. he is now on metacam [loxicom] his limp and sorry face was gone within 3 hours. The dog i lost 2 years ago had been on metacam for 4 years without issue. But he was dosed as the vet advised, less in summer and the full dose in winter or when his limp got worse.

Yup metacalm / loxi stuff what did it …
But long term I was told it bad for kidneys ( any vets back up or confirm?)

Youmove as said is just a supplement like glucosamine for us… I don’t imagine you would get such an improvement so quick on such short time on that alone

My lab on youmove and seems easier but after good 3 weeks till noticed

The positive effect that Yumove sometimes gives is probably down to the low grade anti inflammatory effect associated with supplementation of eicosopentanoic acid and other omega 3 fatty acids which are found in quite high levels in green lipped mussel extract that Yumove is based on. Other sources include fish oils. What is unlikely to produce an effect is the glucosamine and chondroitin as these substances are seldom going to be in deficit and are unlikely to be absorbed intact from the gut

I've just seen an advert on c4 for a trial pack of yumove at a reduced price.

A friend of mine had a 3-year-old Belgian Shepherd Dog that had been under the vet for 11 months, walking on 3 legs due to arthritic problems. Within 2 weeks of starting on Yumove it was walking quite normally on 4 legs.

Clearly a good cure for being legless then! I might give that a try next time I need to sober up sharpish!
