Lynx spotted in the highlands?

***conspiracy theory alert***
These semi-tame and easily recaptured lynx are just a blind to distract the authorities attention from the simultaneous release of dozens of truly wild lynx that's secretly taking place all over Scotland as we speak....

(I just made that up, btw).
you jest, but could quite easily be correct! The old distract in one place and be up to no good in another!

Domestic cat gone wild = feral cat.
Domestic lynx gone wild = feral lynx

Lynx is a cat.
Domestic Lynx gone wild is a feral cat.

Legal quarry for those with feral cats listed on their licence?

Dont shoot the messenger..

Feral cats covered under AOLQ?

If a Feral Lynx was attacking livestock in the same way as say an out of control dog, what would the livestock owner do?

Staple diet: Roe Deer

All part of the drive to control Highland deer numbers in the interest of forest regeneration.

They do of course require some fireside TLC during a harsh winter!

As said by someone earlier, they also eat capercaillie and are being released very close to where some of the last surviving UK capercaillie are.

The stupidity of it is staggering.

Some swaggering, gold chain wearing assh*le who had them as vanity pets, then got bored, drove up the a9 and dumped them next to the Zoo.

Zero chance this had anything to do with the re-wilders.
You said? Said chain wearing chav had 4?

Seriously - if it was rewilders, they wouldn’t have done it right next to the a9.

Whoever did this was making no attempt to be clandestine. They were deliberately abandoning them next to a facility with the kit and expertise to deal with them, in a patch of one of the most heavily monitored woodlands in Scotland.

You could pick literally ANY other woodland and be less noticeable.

i am genuinely astounded by the ammount of people on social media who think they would survive for long left to fend for themselves. its beyond crazy to expect a domesticated animal which has probably been in captivity for its whole life to have the ability to survive for any length of time. i hope those responsible are found and charged accordingly.

I actually think they would
Instinct soon comes out once hunger kicks in
Think of dogs that go missing and survive for weeks and weeks

In Sweden we use to do a protective hunt within the law and local government regulation. I were participating in one hunt but the Lynx were already out f the area. (it had taken sheeps)
