MacWet versus Sealskinz!

I've got a pair of sealskinz which are comfortable and warm, but aren't waterproof! I'm wondering whether it's worth trying some Macwets?
anyone tried both? Which would you recommend out of the two?
Or...... is there an even better alternative?!

I have both and neither are worth calling waterproof, sealskinz are but you sweat so much it is hard to tell the difference, prefer some thin woollen gloves and pockets!

Never owned Sealskinz, but I've a couple of pairs of Macwets - not waterproof, but do dry out quickly, keep your hands warm even when wet, and are thin enough to be able to feel what you're doing (oo-err missus.....). I like them.

I was considering get some sealskinz but hesitated. Still not sure they warrant the investment.
Not all Sealskinz are equal apparently i.e. not all are waterproof, so the man in the shop said. Don't think he'd been outdoors for a while though.

At the moment I have a pair of neoprene wychwood fishing mitts which have served very well for the last 5 years.
They're like this but mittens i.e. exposed index, forefinger and thumbs. The palms are very durable.

My seal skinz were waterproof on sat only got em for Xmas

I debated the same when choosing a pair for a Christmas pressie for myself, I bought the Sealskinz and both nights I have worn them out it was raining hard and my hands stayed warm and dry.

I have never used/tried the MacWets and they are a little more expensive than the MacWets, but I certainly dont regret the choice.

Your hands will get wet in MacWets, no doubt, but as has been said, they dry quickly, offer better dexterity than pretty much anything else and are a good deal better than going bare-handed. They also don't lose grip when wet -in fact, I reckon they get more grippy.

As for Sealskinz, I've got the hunter gloves and wear them when it gets too cold to be comfortable in the MWs, but have to take them off to do anything fiddly that can't be managed just by folding back the fingers.

To add to the mix, take a look at Barbour's Sure Grip gloves - they are essentially a MacWet but IMO better-looking.

I have a pair of Sealskinz Hunters (bought off flea bay for £34) and they have proved to be warm and waterproof. The "Hunter" Sealskinz don't have fold back trigger fingers instead they have a full fine leather finger ( same as the palm) which I find sensitive enough to give a good feel to the trigger.

My mate has a pair of MacWets which he likes but says once they are wet they tend to be a bit cold especially if you take them off and put them back on when wet.

I really like my Macwets - as has been said dexterity is good and they dry quickly - they are windproof, but not waterproof. Make sure you get the gore-backed ones as I fund they're better than the 'summer' ones. When it's really cold I've taken to wearing a pair of fleece gloves over the top of the Macwets. Toasty warm and easy to strip the fleece gloves to shoot/do gates etc if necessary.

To be fair any type of windproof fleece will keep your hands warm when wet and will dry out quick.

The best pair of waterproof gloves I've ever owned are a pair of goretex lined leather army gloves. I've even used them for washing up in a stream in the middle of winter.

******* sealskinz!...I have a pair of their shooting gloves ..And that kin velcro drives me mad, sat up in a cold high seat with your nose dripping. so you wipe the back of your hand across your face and... Does anyone want a pair of gloves?...Yes they are warm and yes the leather palms are good, just had a thought...Remove the velcro...;)

Sealskinz are toasty until your hands sweat - and then wont dry out (or worse, freeze!).

Macs are not waterproof but are wind-proof and warm. (Plus you can dry them out against your body if needs be).
