I take it you haven't read the wickipedia discription not to b confused with SikaNope sika brought over from the UK years ago.
The series describes them as Marland SIKA deer, which the states has issues with. They are seen as an invasive species, being managed by fish and game. The large amount of widespread Sika are animals from private collections which have escaped. Lots of info on the states SIKA deer if you dig In to it.I take it you haven't read the wickipedia discription not to b confused with Sika

Having only gralloched a few deer, every time with gloves on btw but just for convenience. Whats the big issue with bare hands? What I like about the 'Meat Eater' series is that it also shows bad shots, wounded animals, long follow-ups, missed opportunities and schoolboy errors. Just like in real hunting then, when not everything always goes to plan.
What I don't like is the questionable practise of gralloching with bare hands and the often disastrous shot placement, in particular with Bow hunting, which appear to be more acceptable in the USA than it is over here.
Season 8 of ME is now on Netflix -worth a look especially for the 3rd episode on Sika in the US
It doesn't accord with best practice, as defined by the various organisations and courses, for fear of contamination in either direction (human to deer, or deer to human (or indeed deer to deer when several beasts are shot)). However, what happens in a sunny English meadow and what happens on a vertiginous Scottish hillside are not always the same. I generally wash my hands in a burn and dry them on my breeks afterwards if that helps...Having only gralloched a few deer, every time with gloves on btw but just for convenience.
