to paraphrase Mark Twain too much Guiness is barely enough.Wrong thread!! Who said too much Guinness???![]()
Like I said, unless vitally necessary so if you’re protecting live stock then clearly there is a need but for general numbers control or just to protect a golf course large putting greens I’d suggest winter would be a more sensible time.Just curious, how do you stand on shooting pigeons and crows in fields during the nesting season?
There isn’t any difference for me.
During the lambing season you’d lose the permission if you don’t take every fox you can.
Another thing we can thank the interweb for!
30 years ago this A: would never have been talked about because it’s not newsworthy, B: wouldn’t have had people quoting bogus ‘reports’ and ‘stats’ which are totally made up and unverified, and C: apart from a very small group of antis, no one else would likely have given a toss.
In today’s world you say nothing to anyone about what you do unless you know them and know how they will react.
I never comment on anything to do with stalking/hunting/pest control on linked in or the like as the tsunami of trolls hitting you would be huge - how to destroy your career in one post!!!
The quieter a more understated we are about what we do the better, I feel. 99% of the population will never hear or see us doing our ‘jobs’ so the more we keep it that way
I would have thought that the worst time for fox damage would be early spring through the summer months when worms and bugs are active and the foxes are trying to dig them up.Like I said, unless vitally necessary so if you’re protecting live stock then clearly there is a need but for general numbers control or just to protect a golf course large putting greens I’d suggest winter would be a more sensible time.
Pigeons and crows come under the general licences so by that very nature you need to have a necessary justification to shoot them, namely protection of crops and livestock.
For transparency I’m not an experienced fox shooter at all, just seems logical to me given we’re managing a population as opposed to eradicating it.
In my line of work you don’t scream me shout that you spent your free time culling deer - doesn’t really go down well with potential customers.Nope rubbish .....why should we hang our head in shame and hide in a corner ?
As said after you it's often a chance to educate
I won't "hide" because of what I do ...and it's had f*ck all impact on my career
Paul

Absolutely. As a self employed person I try to keep it to myself unless the particular work I'm doing is tied to the shooting industry or another business or someone in the shooting industry mentions my company which does happen. Needless to say I don't want my clients or new neighbours knowing I shoot, let alone hunt. People can disagree but when your mortgage relies on the money your business makes then I'm not risking itIn my line of work you don’t scream me shout that you spent your free time culling deer - doesn’t really go down well with potential customers.
If I had a different job, like a farmer/plumber/builder, etc or if I wasn’t in a revenue generating role then maybe, but as it is, I keep my head down esp on forums like linked in!
I have to agree with TringSaint on this one as well, for me as a younger guy in my 20s starting out in the corporate world, I wouldnt dream of opening my mouth about anything hunting or firearm related due to the potential effects on my career. In my line of work you don’t scream me shout that you spent your free time culling deer - doesn’t really go down well with potential customers.

But if your asked what you got up to etc at weekend ill say what I was doing.....
Conversation over lunch is particularly relevant..... if you get someone questioning it usually replied back with what are you eating? Oh the chicken. .... do you know where that came from or how it was raised ?
Then chance to educate comes in ...
I now have colleagues looking for game from me regularly.
Try speaking to folk.... you might be surprised.

And yet many of your fellow countryman say your media isn't biased or controlled.... Smh...I was reading a news article on foxes on a golf course being controlled and reading the comments with the absolute uproar about it and everyone calling for the golf course to go out of business (which I have no doubt will happen)
I decided to put a comment on stating that although it’s sad foxes need to be controlled that people need to remember that foxes will predate dogs, cats ground nesting birds and anything else they can get their teeth into and foxes won’t do well in populations that are too dense as food availability will be an issue.
I immediately received a comment about how I was talking nonsense and that foxes “DO NOT” predate on cats and dogs.
I personally know of several cats and 2 dogs (one a pup, the other a teacup type yorkie) that were taken by foxes - the pup was taken while the owner watched from the door when the dog was let out for a pee.
So I thought I’d pull up YouTube and Google to get a video to show that they do - to my surprise the main title after the search goes on about how foxes don’t predate on cats and dogs and no vids of it, but the videos were of lefty type “professors” stating how foxes whiny kill cats!
Absolute nonsense and call cynical but I feel the narrative has been influenced by lefty idiots with a Disney complex….![]()
There's nothing in @gixer 1's post that suggests that the original mainstream media item (a news article) was biased. And yet many of your fellow countryman say your media isn't biased or controlled.... Smh...
Ahem...isn't "social media", media? AFAF...There's nothing in @gixer 1's post that suggests that the original mainstream media item (a news article) was biased.
Most of his observation is referencing the uneducated comments and social media posts that followed, and once you start looking the algorithm will throw you more of the same. That's how it works.
There's big difference between perceived bias in the mainstream media (eg, BBC) and what some individual nutter chooses to post on their social media.Ahem...isn't "social media", media? AFAF...
I think we all know that the BBC is biased....There's big difference between perceived bias in the mainstream media (eg, BBC) and what some individual nutter chooses to post on their social media.
Your own social media posts are decidedly biased, but that's your personal bias, not because you're being controlled (I don't think). I wouldn't form an opinion on bias in American mainstream media based on your biased social media posts. That would be silly. The two are completely separate.
