Meindl Dovre Extreme

I have had a pair for a few years now and have mixed views on them. They we great when I was hunting in the New Zealand southern Alps, good grip when climbing rocks and the sole was ridge enough to take the crampons I had. Also they have never leaked.

On the down side the stitching split around the top, they are hard under foot and not that warm.

Meindl do their own branded wax and spray on waterproofer. I use them and mine aren't looking too bad after a couple of years, but I'm not out in them every day.

Just returned a pair of Harkila Pro Hunter Kevlar less than a year old with moderate use which are letting in water and opted for the Dovre as replacements, arrived today so look forward to testing them.

Oh well I am going to stick my neck out I bought a pair of the dreadful le chams plus gtxs of this site and they are dare I say it proving to be very very good, comfortable warm and taking a fair amount of abuse thus far, also they dont squeak when you give them a good coat of kiwi dubbin, time will tell though on just how long they last sorry cant comment on the meindls

What product would you recommend to keep these boots supple, something like nikwax or dubbin?

Thanks.

Like also mentioned meindl do their own brand of leather conditioners but are a bit hard to find so you will just have to google them. One is a leather proofer and conditioner spray and the other is meindl sport wax. I would go easy on the wax though, if you over apply it will block up the pores in the leather and make them less breathable. Boot care instructions are on their website anyway.

I have had a pair of mendl dovre extreme etc for 2 years, and have given them some stick. my mate who is a full time hunt terrier lad used glockner boots, and used one pair for 2 seasons, and said they were more hard wearing than the old lace to toe fell boot. That said, I have had toe trouble in mine, the boots I find the most comfortable and also good for the job are the Lowa (as worn by german army), the are really comfortable and i have worn for stalking (seem to be less numb on feet - so less noise), very robust for beating, digging etc & waterproof. To sum up I think both great boots, but if I had to choose one for me, would probably go Lowa

In my opinion the Meindl are a cracking boot. Very comfortable, excellent ankle support and totally waterproof. The only criticism (as has already been mentioned) is that the soles are a bit hard and they can make the bottom of your feet a bit sore after prolonged periods on rough or hard ground. I have considered putting in a more cushioned insole to improve this but I don't really want to change the fit of the boot.

I have had a pair for a couple of years and dont wear them as much as some members here, but have found them excellent boots. They are the only boots that i have never had an issue with whilst walking. In particular I find the fit really good. My Dad also has Meindl boots butnot the Dovre and he has tried various other brands but settled on Meindl. Highly recomended!
