He is a white British hetrosexual male who served in the armed forces and was deemed fit for armed protection duties.. What "inclusive qualities" allowed him in the door , that might have weeded him out ?

Indeed, However I am sure you would agree that the Old Bill aren't exactly covering themselves in Laurels at the moment.

Someone already mentioned Cliff Richard being targeted with zero evidence and let's not forget operation Midland - back in 2016 Scotland Yard claimed investigations into Sir Leon Brittan were "Fully justified" - as we now know they were "fully justified" by false statement and perjuriously obtained warrants.

If this chap is innocent then it is dreadful that he is being named at this stage but as a copper he can hardly expect much sympathy (whether that is right or wrong I have no view but is should come as no surprise)

Surely, from a purely statistical perspective, one should always be 'surprised' when a police officer commits a crime? Per capita, one imagines that police officers commit fewer crimes than the general population. I guess the same goes for deerstalkers, judges, and Anglican vicars. It is important, of course, to exclude Catholic priests from this reasoning, principally for comedic effect.
 
I have seen all aspects of the police and police work, from working with them up to CC level.
Some I greatly admired, some Policewomen are extremely capable, some much more intelligent than their male counterparts- I have seen some that are not and some who actively ignore their senior police officers. I know some have to behave in certain ways when faced everyday with real horror and may seem uncaring as a result.
Some however, are like boy scouts, but to call anyone who criticises the Police a bigot, is more illuminating of the person calling the names not those who question and abhor some police who abuse their position.
Carl is right, I suspect the percentage of wrong -uns is less than the general public but so it should be. Those in a position of trust should never abuse that trust, a weightier sentence needs must follow, if and when anyone is found guilty.
Closer to home and stalking (deer) has anyone had an overbearing FEO who didnt know the rules, I have ? That, in my view is an abuse we all generally know more, those who 'control' us and what we are allowed to do should never be in a position of opinion only - only facts or HOG or passing on a CC's view, assuming he's/she's entitled to hold it.
I have also read the Police internal 'Best Value' reviews of their services and did not recognise the reports conclusions about the services I was involved with. Police and introspection are sometimes distant strangers Any Public Service who cannot allow fair oversight without protectionism is doing something wrong.
 
I had a phone call today from somebody claiming to be a sun news paper reporter, as apparently the police officer in question according to them shot with the Clay Pigeon Club I am secretary of. Did I know him what was he like?
Did not consider it in mine or the Clubs best interest, sounding alarm bells, so I replied I was not going to help them and that he is innocent until proven guilty and hung up.
Anybody wants the reporters phone number just PM me.

I did read it correctly but wrongly assumed you were capable of adult discussion. I did obviously fully expect you to revert to type so no disappointment there.

The very first sentence of your post has me doubting you.
I was 30 years in the job, in several specialist roles and never came close to "seeing all aspects of police and police work"
I would go as far as to say that I do not know of anyone who could make such a claim.
Can you please enlighten me and explain as to how you can

Interesting position to take. Would you indulge me for a moment and explain what sort of "less-than-worthy" qualities would be weeded out by intentionally excluding any members of our community/society? Bear in mind that the vetting process already seeks to exclude criminals or those with criminal connections.
