I've taken mine off for stalking as multiple shots as so rare, however when zeroing or at the range the heat haze from my ase moderator is insane and impossible to sight through
I use an armageddon gear one as its nomex lined and has a draw cord that pulls in the baffle at the rear to stop it blowing off but you can still pull it back to cool. Really helps with the heat mirage but it would be to long for an sl5, I use it on my sl7. I regularly get the mod hot to the point it cant be touched with bare skin and the cover is holding up just fine
If you have mounted your scope 'properly' and used mounts that keep it as close to the action as possible then I'd advise against a neoprene cover. I bought one for my .270 mod without thinking it through. Once fitted it impedes with the bottom of your sight picture if the neoprene is too thick.
My ancient oil barrel of a PES mod wears some cheap cammo tape these days I only wanted something to prevent it ringing like a bell every time something touched/knocked it and tape does that just fine.
