I read so much tripe about FAC renewals and variations and mods coming off ticket, it get monotonous and boring!

All you need for a successful renewal or variation is time and patience nothing more nothing less, provided you’ve got all your ducks in a row beforehand let them get on with it. That’s what you pay them for.!

Perfect, they are not. It is not like the old days, nothing gets done in a hurry, badgering them won’t get you anything except further down the list, so fill your ticket up and forget about it!

Ah, but they you would have broken the law and would be liable to a stretch in prison.

But, you would also need to notify your FLD within 7 days of your purchase, so in any case they would know quickly if you had purchased a 223 whilst applying for a 22-250 so would then stop the variation if you notified in time.

Either way, the onus is on you to comply so if you knowingly mess about then you know exactly what’s coming.

Still, I NEVER send in my license when making any changes or renewing. If they want it sent to them after it’s been amended /renewed then I am happy to do so.

Btw, this is no different to your photo card driving license which they will ask for you to send back to them after any changes, but for which they have no proof if you do or don’t.

It’s interesting how you state what Kent and Norfolk police do, and you follow it to the letter, yet when I dared to suggest that FLD behaviour wasn’t exactly consistent across the country, and that I and others I know had to jump through lots of hoops / comply with certain requirements, none of which are defined within firearms law, I was shouted down (not by you afaik) and told by many of the legal eagles on here to tell them to get stuffed!

If your FLD insists on sending back your ticket when making a change or asking you to don orange underwear when out stalking then do it - it’s not worth the grief.

I just wanted to highlight that despite what many ‘very knowledgeable’ people on here may think, it is not a level playing field, some forces will apply different rules to others and we just have to bend over and take it.

Which is why we need a national police force, all reading off the same page, instead of the 40 odd separate forces who all do their own thing according to what their chief constables think appropriate.
Which is why the word "guidelines" appears so frequently whenever the home office is consulted.

My friend just got his shiny and renewed FAC back. All moderators have been removed.

Some people maybe over analyse things a little.

They have been deregulated, they are just harmless metal tubes. Just crack on and buy what you want without hindrance.

Surely it can only be a good thing for us when we actually make progress and get plain-silly and illogical laws taken down.

As shooter we do not get many 'victories' and i for one celebrate them when they happen.

I will be looking for a small and lightweight mod for my Tikka 6.5x284 now.
