I am thinking of replacing my T8 with either a Jetz Compact or a Roedale. I am undecided which to go for and I'm was wanting feed back from people that use them. I know the Roedale is lightest, but which is the slimest and puts the least length on the barrel. I have not seen either in the flesh.

Have you considered a Northstar? I worry less about weight than about added length, and the Northstar adds only 4", being a bushless reflex-type design.

I have all three.

The Northstar is definitely the quietest. But very heavy.

The Jet Z is good, but also heavy. The Roedale is the best compromise between weight and effectiveness.

We had an unscientific comparison between the CMN4 and the Roedale a few weeks ago on a 260 and two 6.5's. Everyone agreed the Roedale was the quietest.

I would suggest you contact RIFLECRAFT about thier new import from NZ saw one at a take they gave a few weeks ago they are really featherweight shorter than most @£300 they really looked impressive If was changeing I would get one tomorrow.tried to get one on test and told I was Cheeky!

+1 ... It's a Hardy Gen IV and I've just got one for my 6.5x55. Lost 55% of the weight of my old T8, and 60mm shorter. Checking zero with it on Weds so will post further thoughts

YORKSJT, I have just traded in for warranty exchange with Jackson Rifles on my old T8 for CMM4 on .243. (Jacksons rifles give 40% off for any new mod they sell for your old T8).

It is longer and may be a bit louder (not very much at all) but it is alot lighter and I love it.

not experienced the Roedale but heard good things about them.

I have seen a Jet z second hand with led me to look at comparisons but with it I have started stretching my budget.

Declared interest - there's an ongoing relationship with Colin and the OLC crew.

Just opened the parcel for a new S series from them for evaluation. We'd had the earlier version and this one reflects some of the dialogue we'd had at the time.

As yet unfired, but 'oh my gosh' it's ( another ) thing of beauty. The general engineering and finish is absolutely first rate. Size and weight wise it's no market leader but substantially down from previous - with a capital 'S'.

A few things on next week, but I'll try to get out and give it an airing/ get pictures.

To put it in context, there are some great products out there - hard to beat actually handling something first hand and having a serious think about what your personal priorities are - weight, size, sound reduction etc.

I had a T8 and liked it ! then when it was knack*** i bought a SL5 and a CMM4.

SL5 feels heavy and bulky BUT is smaller and lighter than the T8. And is very robust.


CMM4 is very light longer than the SL5 , But Gass cuts ! But only to a certain level and then seems to stop ? don't know why.



If i need to buy a mod today it would be a SL5 ! in 5 years time then new models will be out and the SL5 might be like the T8 is today Good but long in the tooth and to expensive,

Hi Yorksjt,

Appreciate a few people have commented, but feel the urge to add to it all.

I have a JetZ on my .300 win mag and a Roedale on my 6.5x55. I'm currently selling the JetZ and replacing it with a Roedale.

I can't remember the exact dimensions, but think the Rodale might be a fraction slimmer, but a tiny bit longer. It's not something you'll notice unless you start measuring though.

The JetZ is solid and will probably last a lot longer than the Roedale, given it's all steel. And, it can take a hammering if you want to use it on the range as well.

However, the Roedale is a lot lighter and, in my view, better suited for a stalking rifle. The balance is significantly better than with the heavy JetZ and as long as you don't do long rapid fire strings on the range, you'll be fine.

As people say, there's a lot of good options, also in terms of UK products (which I think is worth supporting) but I really like the Roedale mod.

I use the Jet Z for range work and load development etc. save the Roedale foe stalking. I think if I had to use a T8 or the Northstar on a stalking rifle, I would just do without.

I have three models in 30 cal and two .22

Why three 30 cal moderators? My 308 is threaded m18x1 and my 300 Win Mags are threaded m16x1. I can't remember the model numbers of each mod, but what I can say is that they are super quiet and recoil is dampened to the point where one would think that one is shooting an air rifle. Exaggeration? None whatsoever. These are my first moderators, and were recommended to me by a friend. My brother who is not an experienced shot was flabbergasted when he tried the moderated 300WM after first having fired it unmoderated.
