Modern veterinary surgery practice?

Couldn’t blame anyone for that either..

Think the only time I ask that is if I’m referring onto a specialist elsewhere so it’s definitely not for my benefit. At some point you need to have that awkward costs discussion.

I have to say I’m possibly lucky in that I’ve nice clients and a nice area. A range in what folk want to do and spend from “do everything” to “lets keep it palliative or costs to a minimum” - which is totally fine. A lot of the vet bashing seems to be online based / elsewhere and not within the clinic.
And it is really frustrating when clients reveal, after the investigation, that they are insured.

Many thanks for the replies folks and does look like it is a more common practice than i expected.

As i said,my surgery gets an absolutely booting of a pile on when anyone posts a grievance on social media, with probably 80+% of comments slaughtering it with actual occurrences that have led them to post, and is usually accompanied with the recommendations of 2 localish vets who apparently can do no wrong.

I know it's social media but very rarely do i see a pretty much universal damning of a place with very little approving voices but it looks like charging before actually getting results and such is pretty common.

I got told my border bitch is allergic to 27 different things !!!! Wife took her in n got slapped with injections to boost her immune system ............ cost of ........500 notes ( were insured ) I took her in ........ for annual boosters .. oh I think we need to do more bloods for her allergies said thy vet .

Oh yes says I. Chicken . Wheat etc etc she's allergic to isn't she . Yes says thy vet .........and grass

So my reply was ........

Well the fookers been on chicken . Venison.boar etc etc etc runs in grass . N is fookin fine

I'll just pay for the boosters( only coz the boarding kennels want them up to date for when we go abroad )

It's a fooking dog ffs . It's licks it's own arse . Eats any crap it can find etc etc .

I've told the wife I take um to vets from now on .don't get me wrong if my lil mates are suffering ill.pay through the nose for there well being . But don't tell me perfectly healthy dogs
Need this n that
...just in case . Playing to fools and there heartstrings they are .....

but us proper dog men .aint no fools

Bite back boys ... question the vets .......

Bye 👋

Probably scare mongering you so you part with your hard earned money. Bet there’s nothing too serious wrong with your pup. I can imagine the bill is only going to get bigger.

There you go. Diagnosed online so no need to go in 😂

Think it’s also worth factoring in that the majority of staff will be employees who aren’t on a commission. They get paid end of the month regardless. Sure, if no one comes through the door over a year they’d probably be let go but I don’t think any employee is looking at how much they invoice. Be like they cashier in tescos trying to convince me to take a few extra packets of bacon.

it is not just the bill for surgery etc that ****es me off! charge 24 quid for eye drops for wife's dog.... they were 8 quid in chemists..... same packaging same chemical/brand strength, advice sheet inside absolutely the same product...... oh! he needs pain relief after the op that will be £x quid.... bugger off, that medication is paracetamol and codeine ! I have that at home and its pennies!

I wish my vet was still the same guy and not now part of a large chain of rip off @£$%^&*

Took my little chap in for his 1 year old booster 3 worming tablets and a handled check over. could not have been in for 10 minutes and paid £118 of my hard earned. What joy!!

BC.
