Folks I’m going abroad this month and really need something for the mosquitos - they seem to hammer me compared to the rest of the family. Any recommendations what to use? Thanks in advance!

50% DEET max. Any more not any more effective. 20% DEET min. The most highly regarded brands here are 40%.
Burning cow **** in a tin works well for an outdoor area.

You really want something with DEET in it - as already stated 20-50%, but for Christ sake keep it away from anything plastic the solvent the DEET is suspended in will turn it into mush…..watch straps / rubber buttons on iPods / cameras etc.

Picardin is a non-destructive alternative that actually works without destroying your stuff.

Hello, A lot of people use Avon Oh so Soft , There are many reports on line, But anything with Deet is good, If you do get bitten try some Tiger Balm,

... Varnish on the floor of the villa you rented? Yup, Strips that stuff right off

Costly mistake

Lemongrass-based spray is very popular in Malaysia as a natural repellent.

Find Smidge works for me as well.

Nothing beats fumigating your accomodation with a can of Shieldtox, that sorts out most things with more than 2 legs... Pity I can't get it here... (Although to be fair not exactly needed until the wasps come around...)

Have a google for Repel 100 - it's on amazon for example, it's 98% DEET and in my own experience, extremely effective. As others have said, beware contact with plastic as the plastic will lose. If you don't want the strong stuff, Ultrathon is highly recommended and issued by some armed forces.....

Used 100% deet in the bog oak swaps along the Mississippi, it was like a aperitif for them

Thermacell or non-branded equivalents.

Heats pyrethroid pad up to give a 5ft to 10ft protective globe around you depending on model.

Not only deters but also kills, 5 min in tent or 10min in room clears it for the night, assuming mesh on tent windows etc

Also works well on the dreaded scottish midge.

Hi stonepark.
When sat out waiting for Roe Bucks in Scotland or in a high seat i would always have a Thermacell.
For those really still and humid evenings that the bugs really like, the Thermocell was a great help. Face net and some Lifesystems repellant to top it off.
Bugs really like me.

Any of the products containing DEET or icaridin will work.

One of my mates swears by Thermacell, he doubles in sizes even if a mosquito just whizzes by him, so i trust him on the topic 🙂

I used the 80% bushman stuff for sandflies in NZ, and mosquitoes in Sweden, works. Hard on some rubber and plastic materials though.
