Muntjac in Cheshire !

The farrier says he saw a munti whilst shoeing at Appleton. A shoot member, also at Appleton, was pleased to tell me that he had seen slots but was very disappointed when I pointed out that it was the neighbours pot bellied wife, sorry pig that had got out!!!

OK, Lets have a few Boar then?:norty:

They are local to Steve won't be long before they escape or if the antis find them and turn them loose. Then we will be busy .
The Munty I shot was a buck as of the three I saw there were two bucks one doe I still hear them barking occassionally but have not observed any increase so maybe the Buck is firing blanks or the Doe is infertile. Interesting to see the one in the canal I have my own theory of how it got there. The two dead on the road were both Does.

I've done some rabbiting on a friends ground at fishpool, there were some on that ground as confirmed by the landowner. This was 4 years ago, so numbers may have improved since then!

It can be done under licence but has to be within 1km from where the animal was originally captured.

And only in a select few counties in SE England, if I remember my DSC1 notes correctly?

Getting back to the subject of Cheshire, I've seen a couple of munties browsing alongside the motorway in Cheshire when passing through on route from North Wales to the midlands.

I've worked all around Manchester airport lots of countryside and farm land that looks like ideal deer habitat. I'm out and about at all times of day and night and have never seen a deer of any type.

It's surprising there isn't larger numbers of other deer species in Cheshire.. Maybe munties will feel that niche with stronger numbers

I spotted a dead munti on the bend where the M56 joins the M53 heading west towards N Wales. that was 3 years ago though.

I shoot around the area of chester zoo, have seen the odd deer knocking around, but recently been informed of sightings of fallow deer from members of a local riding stables who had spooked the der whilst laying up,they said it took off like a springbok ...the horse was galloping after it but the deer was off and gone through woodland

so there are sporadic sightings of deer within cheshire, just keep your eyes peeled

We shoot all that ground outside & inside those bends, never seen any sign.

That would tie in with where I've seen them, on two occasions, both sides of the motorway.

Also at the junction between M56 and M6, but not sure if that's still in Cheshire?

That m6/m56 intersection is Lymm, and is still in Cheshire (I know 'cos that's where I was brought up.....they don't seem to have got round to putting the blue plaque up yet though..... :D )
