My best ever wild river trout

I'm not a fly fisher - yet... But I will be when I've got settled after my house move. Every time I drive alongside the Nith it always looks tantalisingly "fishy".
I’ve fished perhaps half a dozen beats on the Nith over the years, all of which have looked fishy. However I’ve found it needs a good dose of water to be productive. If you can catch the river as it’s dropping it can get quite exciting!

The Annan, Bladnoch and Urr are also very good rivers.

fantastic fish guys well done. - my best time was on the rivers around penrith, you could then buy a book of tickets to fish the rivers from little brook trout to bigger trout from the john norris shop. me and the missus ( who also fishes) we spent mornings and afternoons on the fly for two weeks in between walking
dogs were worn out as was I, but a cracking holiday with some beautiful catch and release trout, treasured memory

Thanks for all the kind words guys it was an exceptional fish on the dry fly for me anyway. Clearly I’m not going to say which river on an open forum as it busy enough already ;)
Hope this means it’ll be a good season? I’m commissioning Robin Ade to do a life size painting. So much much more alive than stuffed fish.. he’s a good friend and an amazing salmonoid painter.

I know this is a stalking site but a few fly fishers on here so here goes…..Probably never get a better trout….on my own dry fly design I was shocked! A little over 5lb. Safely returned

Looks like its in great condition. Catching it on a homemade fly must make it an even better catch.

Fished pretty much all my life but never tried fly fishing.

Nice fish all but really just tiddlers - feast your eyes on NI’s finest!
These are dollaghan - brown trout which live in Lough Neagh and run the tributary rivers to spawn, all on the fly in my local river - biggest went 22lbs or so. Needless to say not caught by me!

Surely that's a salmon that's been painted.
