Just want some advice on a scope

Seen a Schmidt & Bender zenith 3 - 10 x 50 second hand ,is this a good all round scope for my first deer rifle?:???:

As long as it's in good condition i'd say it should be a good scope for you. Some go for fixed power, but if you have an offer for a variable why not!

if you don't fancy the zenith if you go new zeiss duralyt is worth a look great scope for the money

Second hand scopes can be a bit risky, but SB scopes are hard to beat
And that model is a dead cert good all rounder, whether first scope or tenth.
Good luck

Depending on the price you are getting the scope for another option might be to go for a second hand fixed 8X56 or 6X42 and spend the money saved on stalking. If you are new to stalking then this might be a better investment.

in a nut shell no not even close i know everyone raves on about the duralyt's especially the magazines but there not all there cracked up to be
Well said. I can't understand why they're so highly rated. Is it just me who can see how fuzzy around the outside of the image through a Duralyt is?

I started on a fixed 8x56 S&B then a second hand Khales, and now, they are all Khales, you won't do better.

Gotta say I agree with what's being said about the Duralyt being fuzzy round the edges of the sight picture - I've always wanted to know if anyone else had experienced that! I find it is worst at 3x mag, and gradually gets better until (probably around 9x mag) it isn't a problem.

There is no reason why the Zenith shouldn't be your first and last scope it will last a long time and if you change rifle there is no reason not to just move it to the new rifle. S&B quality optics.

Have to disagree about the Duralyt, no image problems with mine regardless of x mag, crystal clear glass & worth the money IMHO. S&B as already said is top notch though....

The S&B Zenith is an excellent choice. I would buy it without reservations.

Fixed power scopes are fine, but if your budget runs to a good veriable, that is the only way to go.

3-12x50 is the most generally useful size for UK conditions.

+1 mine us fine aswell before everyone starts mocking me i'v had a few scopes, swarovski had the best glass followed by s&b my duralyt has better glass than the 2 nightforce i'v owned! I won't disagree about the image being clearer with schmidt but what good is it when the reticle is so big you can't see your target!!!!!! Perhaps that why I love the duralyt the reticle 6 is lovely! I'm not knocking the zenith but I can't stand scopes in the first focal plane. The other plus with the zeiss is the fact that if you fall over when out and about which seems to be quite alot for me, if it gets marked on the tube or bell it doesn't matter so much! You won't find me crying in the corner of a field because my scope has got marked

Lol, the fuzziness you see is the outside of the objective housing as the field of view opens up at low mag. Duralyt's have a highly recessed objective lens but are by no means the only scope this happens to.
To be fair, you ought to compare apples and apples. At the price point there isn't anything german and vari power to compete.

I also like the no 6 ret in the Duralyt.

Oh right, hadn't thought of that! The Duralyt is my first decent centrefire rifle scope and although I don't have anything to compare it to, I love it. It's great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone - the reticle is great, especially illuminated. I was just intrigued to know why the outside edges were sometimes blurry - thanks for clearing that up

i have 2 duralyts.

nay bother here, in fact best shot with one is well over 300 yards on a charlie, 70gr nosler and a 595 combo did the rests(but the scope was needed :) )

bob.
