N140 and .308

Just picked us a tub of the above as I want to load 165 grain SP in my .308. I was previously using IMR4895 and 180 grain RN at around 2500fps, but am struggling to find either now. It'll primarily be used on roe, with the occasional trip for sika.

Any advice as to what works well in your own rifle would be much appreciated 👍

I would go to Vihtavouri’s own website and follow their load data. It will have been well tested prior to publication.

N140 is a good versatile powder and was much used for 174 grain bullets in .303" to match factory .303 Mark VII velocity of 2.450fps in a 25 inch barrel. So it will be a good choice for those "heavy" .308 Winchester loadings too.

Sierra 125gns Prohunters over 47gns N140 will drop anything on four legs in the UK - and most other places…
As always follow Viht’s data - starting low and work up in small increments.

Both driven with N140, could push charge weights for a little more velocity but accuracy wise very happy, both loadings producing .4" groups consistently.

2856 fps average for the nosler
2825 fps average for the ttsx

20" barrel, Bergara Wilderness Thumbhole carbon
