Too small a sample. How good a die set works for you has a lot to do with the cartridge as it comes from the chamber, the brass you're using, and the bullets you're loading. There are always minor (or sometimes, major) differences in dimensions of loading dies and sometimes they just aren't compatible with what you're shooting. For example: I have a set of old Hornady dies that I just can't use with my new 6.5x55. FL sized cases won't chamber smoothly. My Lee set will allow easy chambering. I used the Hornady dies for three decades with great results. They are just incompatible with my FN. I have one set of 30-06 dies that I have relegated to exclusive use with my 03-A3 National Match because they delivered excellent results from the go.
As to run out. I haven't measured runout since I quit bench rest shooting. Never found the need with hunting loads. How much more do you get using Lee dies than others? I'm curious.~Muir
I went round a mates the other week as he was "having trouble" with his 7x57 resizing. Ram wouldn't go all the way, turns out he was using an FL die without realising it and not lubing cases. How he didn't get a case stuck I don't know!
If you're sure you've got it setup and it's the right die perhaps a good cleaning is in order?
Remember, if you're FL sizing you'll need to lube the case walls and the neck, but not the shouders.
A quick update. I returned the die in question with some bullets and cases. He could not get it to work properly so has returned it to the makers and is supplying me with a RCBS neck die. So we will try with that.
