New long range lead

How many people died last year or the year before that from eating game meat?
What ever the number it can be further reduced by the voluntary ban and personal choice not to eat game meat containing lead.

yet

Smoking is the primary cause of preventable illness and premature death, accounting for approximately 74,600 deaths a year in England. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body and dramatically reduces both quality of life and life expectancy.

When the HSE ban smoking I will start to take them seriously.
LOL! I'd argue that obesity was the leading cause of death across the developed world, but whatever....

As to the new long range .22LR, I'd guess it because Rimfire LR PRS matches are becoming very popular. Add to that, that high end, 700 footprint, .22LR rifles (RimX, Vudoo, etc.) are beginning to be sold in large enough numbers to warrant their own specialized ammunition for those competitions. A lot of folks are using those actions, setup for .22WMR, to run 22LR cased rounds with very looonnggg, high BC bullets for this purpose.

BTW, Lapua's website it down, and the link isn't working...

It’s working for me.

This ^^^ is exactly what this new ammo is all about. The precision .22LR shooting business is serious business! The demands on ammo consistency are stringent and as already discussed, a lot of brands have really suffered in the pandemic / American doomer stockpiling era.

I have an acquaintance who is a champ .22LR shooter / custom comp rifle builder and he’s got some of this new ammo inbound as a long time Lapua customer / importer. Can’t wait to see what it delivers in terms of ES and precision at 100m.

Probably many died from elavated levels of lead in their blood. Trouble in the UK most medics are not looking for it, nor are they looking for it at pot mortem.

There is plenty of research now being carried out in the US and in Europe that has demonstrated a clear link between elavated levels of lead in the blood in the blood and blood cancers, and small cell lung cancers. These studies were based on analysing blood samples of patients with the disease from a randomised selection of the general public and compared with randomised selection of subjects with no sign of any disease.

Lead can only enter your blood and bone tissue by either ingesting it, or breathing in lead particles. Most of the old forms of lead - in water supplies, from petrol and paints etc are now now longer common.

They above research is now developing treatments for these cancers that involve using drugs that remove the lead. Early trials in the US on patients undergoing end of life care for secondary leukaemia have resulted in the vast majority surviving well over a year and showing no sign of the disease.

The work is progressing well and is going forward into full trials. These are not new drugs, but are existing products with full licences that are being repurposed. The US and European will be the primary markets. We may in the UK get it one day, but our regulators no longer recognise European approvals and under limited budgets of most small research programmes they are focusing on bigger and more receptive primary markets.

It would be an interesting study to do looking at medical records and incidence of lead induced disease in the general public and those who possess shotgun or firearm certificates. The data is all there, it will be a question of funding and getting ethical approvals etc.

But there are plenty of studies now published and ongoing in North America and mainland Europe looking at particular indigenous peoples for whom hunted meat is a major part of their diet.

My point being, the impending lead ban in the UK us no bearing on any new products developed or released
Its not just you, the EU is or was following a similar trajectory, which makes the market viable.
The EU process has gone a bit quiet since they were asked to produce evidence to back up the claims.

Whilst I appreciate your in depth knowledge of this subject I think you are or are at risk of losing your balance!
It has already been pointed out that smoking is far more worse than lead is but no one is trying to stop that!
Between 3000 and 4000 deaths a year occure from driving vehicles but no one want to stop car ownership.
Where is the balance?

It is illegal to deal and consume class A drugs but alas it still goes on and I wager more of a burden to the NHS and tax payer than anyone consuming a few pheasants a year shot with lead.....where is the balance?
This whole approach is not balanced it is clearly an attack on adult individual choice and hunting.
After this it will be something else and so on and so on.
Bring all the data you wish my friend but seeing as I'm living in a land covered in atomic fall out from Chernobyl know to give cancer but they want to build more nuke plants I'll stick to what I do and big brother can go do one!
Sorry.

Lead is also present in a lot of foods and drink other than game meat that far more of the population are eating regularly much more so than game meat. However nothing we do will divert the HSE from their agenda all we can hope for is some exemptions like .22lr, airguns, muzzle loaders and small gauge shotguns.

Ahhh...now that website is back up, I can see the specs now. Looks like a standard 22LR with a slower burning powder for the long barrels (notice the test barrel is 26" long).

This would probably make some decent hunting ammo in a longer barreled .22LR (I'd think). Something like the old CZ 452 Trainers or Savage Model 12 target rifles...

However, how would you feel if you found out in the future you’ve been poisoning your family/children and they may develop cancers and other diseases on the back of it? We don’t smoke on planes anymore, use phones whilst driving, drive on bikes and motorcycles nor ski without helmets.

I reckon in 10 years we will look back and say, “lead ammo, what the hell were we thinking!”

That or we'll look back and wonder how everyone became such weak minded, fearful woosies. Oh wait, they're already doing that...

People are so obsessed with being safe, they've forgotten how to live, much less how to deal with adversity and danger. But I digress....

What, like you mean everyone driving cars that emit carcinogenic particles and their kids breath it in every day?
Or like taking the kids to the dentist to have a filling containing mercury?
Or like taking the kids McDonald's everyday to boost their obesity.

Do you really really think we need saving from ourselves so much that we should bend over and yield to everything thrust upon us?
Do you and who ever else really believe you can extend human life span and free him of all illnesses via stopping shooting folk from using lead? For goodness sake man, where is your common sense??

Oh, and helmets don't magically make motorcycling safe sorry.
Hundreds are injured, crippled and killed on them but God I miss my bikes!

Lead has and is, quite possibly always going to be used globally probably for ever. You sir do not know the extent that lead is used, oddly enough it is used in the medical world enormously!
Power gen. Non ferrous alloys and glass production to name but a few.

Wake up and smell the bloody coffee for goodness sake!

I reckon on 10 years time will be thinking why did we ever allow the public to own guns, the only guns available then will be plastic toys connected to a playstation or arcade game.
