Non Invasive Mod Removal?

My Muppet mate never thought to remove the mod from or even clean his rifle over the last 8-10 years and has passed it to me to check it over and re-zero.

So, step.one was to give it a good clean, alter the bipod to stop it rubbing on the mod and then try to get it zeroed.

So far I am really struggling to get the mod off - it felt like it was unscrewing and went loose as if it was off the thread, but won't come any further off.

I have tried stripping from the back, but that doesn't help much.

I run a garage so have induction coils, gas, stilsons, so will get it off one way or another, but would like to try a none invasive way.

I suspect it is 'coked' up inside holding the baffles that are over the barrel, so wondering if anything like boiling water, vinegar, brake cleaner, etc would help to dissolve the **** away.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I would upend the barrel and mod in penetrating fluid for 24-48 hours, then make a makeshift clamp by drilling a hole in a piece of wood slightly larger than the diameter of the mod, long cut down to the hole, and put a nut & bolt to tighten all this up on the mod, us this as a lever, it's a bit more user friendly than Stillson wrenches.

From what you describe, either the barrel's thread or the mod's thread are stripped, and given that the barrel is likely to be made of the stronger metal of the two, the mod is probably damaged anyway? If so, then brute force that will further damage the mod but protect the barrel's thread is probably the best way forward.

1.5mm slitting blade the end off as you will be well away from the crown/thread and keep taking slices off to get near the captive nut.
My T8 is 5-3/4" from the end of the mod to the inside shoulder of the nut in the mod then 5/8 of 1/2" unf thread.
If i was doing it I would cut from the end off a 7" no problem then you can get at the nut.
Just cut the ****er off.

The mod is spinning on the barrel already, but I think is being held on the barrel by crud in the baffles

If you are sure of this give it a few taps with a rubber mallet and see if moves a few mm, I'd still soak it for 24 in penetrating fluid, even WD40 will do, cheap enough in 5ltrs tubs.

Have been using blocks of wood, rubber mallet back in the workshop, but won't budge beyond a certain point - currently around 15mm of movement and flopping on barrel.PXL_20230625_191844551.webp
