Join us in congratulating Adam Roberts for his Grand Slam winning performance! 🏆

@adamroberts_prs

Adam is now our 2025 NRL Hunter UK centrefire champion, adding to his 2025 rimfire championship win!

Against a strong field and in challenging conditions, Adam nosed ahead of the competition to secure his place at the top of the leaderboard. Using very typical hunting gear, Adam was able to successfully use his kit to find, range and engage his quarry, dropping very few points on his way to becoming 2025 UK Champion.

At the prize giving Adam took away our top series prize of a Savage Arms rifle.

Thank you Adam for being such a great competitor and person. We’ve all enjoyed your good company at the range and look forward to watching you defend your titles during the 2026 series.

Thanks also to our Headline Partner Savage Arms and Viking for supporting NRL Hunter UK during our first year.

@savagearms @savagearms_uk @vikingarmsltd

Thank you Marc, Helen and all the Range Officers at Gardners Guns. Without your professional staff with their love for the sport and your amazing range facilities we could never hold such a special match as we were able to hold this weekend.

Was a very enjoyable, challenging and safe days competition put on by the NRL Hunter UK team hosted at Gardner Guns range - Eskdalemuir

The comp ran pretty much seamlessly once started with switched on RCOs and catering (free) tha was welcome given the weather (cold but dry) - the targetry was spot on with some quite hard to locate partially hidden by vegetation

Excellent course of fire - hopefully some of the members here who attended will upload photos of the day and contribute their thoughts too

If anyone is considering participating in these events - I urge you to do so, there are zero ego’s , lots of friendly like minded folk all doing what they clearly love doing.

It helps your skill set , as a stalker, fox, vermin or target shooter

Find, range, engage

It’s what it’s about 👍🏻

A few images from the day - some were sent to me - hope ok to use them

Gives a flavour of the day anyway

Be part of it - you know you want to

looks great fun sadly a long way from me

looks like what PRS was in the beginning

These are blind stages

No barricade to pop a bag onto after taking two steps and knowing the distance beforehand

Blind stage - see the target(s) you have to locate on the placard

Timer starts

Move to the viewing triangles and orientate observation to find said targets

Locate, range them and memorise dope for those targets

Move to firing point and set up - engage targets

Move to second firing point and do same

Possible four firing points if one target

Two if two targets

One if four targets

The timer starts as soon as you move from the target stage ident board

It’s a world away from PRS - this is very close to real world stalking / vermin control under timed conditions using steel as the target

It is frankly brilliant fun, offers superb self learning for target observation and rifle skills (making you concentrate on fundamentals) whilst shooting mainly off the deck

You only need a set of rf bins, a accurate rifle with scope you can compensate for drop and a tripod or sticks (you could use sticks)

Most guys (and gals) who are members here will have such as set up

Thanks for the feedback gents, it’s very much appreciated.

Next on the list, for us as an organisation, is to work towards our ambition to be a ‘lead-free’ competition by 2027.

There are numerous challenges and considerations with this task, but it’s an essential one!

Aside of working with the ranges and governing bodies, the most obvious consideration is what bullets people are using.

I am currently at various stages of discussion with various companies, both in the UK and outside, looking at the options.

We will be putting a survey out to our members over the next few days but, given how helpful people have been on here, I wanted to steal a march on getting feedback.

What lead-free bullet brands are people currently using?

I can be bold and say the most common feedback I’ve had so far is that a lot of people are having a lot of success with Yew Tree products and having had a meeting with Richard about working with him and his products I can see why.

Anyway, as always I’m open to any and all suggestions, as discussing such a decision within our community is a must…..

So, go for it!

Just on copper ... 6.5 Creed and used Sako Blades, S&B Blue, Hornady CX and now moving to Fox 123 grn for home loads . Wouldnt imagine many would use factory for this type of set up ...looks absolutely cracking 👍

Currently using :

GS Custom 95g HV in my 6.5-284 and 6.5-47

These are no longer available and the remnants of the low 000’s bought a long time ago

I will be using 114 Yew Tree TLR once exhausted or THAC from Norway

In my 284 barrel 130 TLR Yew Tree

I think a move to lead free will mean some change in the “power factor” rules and the lighter weight will disqualify many calibres from classes. It’s pretty difficult to qualify with a 100-120gn bullets

Yup, there needs to be a rethink on PF especially for 6.5

Not so much 7mm

I guess the PRC shooters should be ok though barrel life won’t be great if they’re pushing 3400 to make existing PF

Whats rules / power factor for this you speak of ?

Stalking rigs basically compatible ?
Im shooting .25-06 with 101grn barness lrx

Paul
Paul - see Rules | NRL Hunter UK and scroll down. I used my 260 Rem in stalking configuration with 130 gr Bergers for this match and shot in the Skills division. I have a floor plate on this rifle, so just single fed a round from my pocket when I was ready to shoot. I plan to shoot in the August match. Will pick a rifle nearer the time.

Regards

JCS

I’m sure there be a few sack doing your events by this decision you making .!

Not sure it’s the decision of NRL Hunter UK team

It’s driven by the lead ban on ranges - those without sand trap around targetry

The nature of the competition and layout if targets means that there can’t be sand traps around targets

To be honest there isn’t a great deal of difference bettween loading 80 rounds of quality lead core bullets and monolithics in terms of cost

Maybe 25/30£ more, maybe a lot less if companies sign up to trade or just over trade cost of bullets which I believe the team are looking at

In the great scheme of things it’s nothing

Only four comps a year so not like it’s going to break the bank when you factor in travelling, maybe overnight stay and entry fee per event

The decision to move to lead-free?

It’s a tide we cannot fight with the de-leading plans coming in at ranges and the way we run our targets.

In respect of of people deciding to not do our events any more after the change, I’ve yet to speak to a single one of our existing competitors (who are actually shooting our matches) who said they will.

There will be lots of opinions from people who have yet to shoot a match or have no intention of ever doing so, but, this is something we’ve got used to over the years.

We have our skills division where power factor doesn’t matter, you can still compete in that category and win trophies and prizes, something you can’t do in other countries, like the US for example.

We are working to review the power-factor element of the rules to make it work, something we think is very achievable.

Your 2025 Teams Champions, Andy Massingham and Michael Searle, put in a top notch performance to take first place at the recent NRL Hunter UK grand slam match in Scotland.

@ronincs1 @mikeygamekeeper

Success required Andy and Michael to be organised and communicating with each other efficiently and effectively, and for anyone observing you’d have thought they had been practicing together for years!

Congratulations Andy and Michael! Your win was well deserved 👏

Thank you @gardnersgunsrifleranges for hosting us and thanks also to our Community Partner @york_knife who had put one of their NRL Hunter exclusive Field Skalpel knives on the table and which was taken home by Andy.

We are back at the Eskdalemuir range on Saturday 7 March for the 2026 series opener. There are still some spaces available so we hope to see you there!
