Only 6.5 mm stated on new Firearms

Received my new firearms today and I was expecting it to just state 6.5mm Creedmoor but instead, it just states firearms to be purchased 6.5mm. So spoke to firearms to clarify, and they said as long as it is a 6.5mm bolt action they don't differentiate the cartridge length/make. Anyone else have something similar? Does that mean I can get a 6.5x47 or a 6.5 x 284 or even a 260? Doesn't sound right or does it ?

yes its fine, you can only buy one rifle so choose which you want ,buy it and thats it.i would check you ammo allowance as that may state caliber

My understanding is that should only specify the calibre ie 6.5/.264 and not the cartridge. If you look at the headings on the FAC, does it not say calibre and not cartridge.
You’ve checked with FLO, go buy what you fancy/need

Had a similar experience when buying my 22.250. Spoke to my local licensing office and said I was after a .22 centrefire for foxing but wasn't sure of the exact calibrate (.222, .223, .224) that I would end up with as this would depend upon what was available second hand at the time. They said that all they would specify on my variation was a .22CF anyway so this wasn't an issue. As Banus correctly points out though this isn't so handy for your ammo allowance as I've had one dealer who wasn't happy that exact calibre wasn't specified? However, didnt have same issue elsewhere and as I home load this hasn't been an issue.

did you get an ammo quota,
Yes, not a very good one though my firearms officer changed my original application of 150 and he put 300 down. I was only allowed 120 in the end though, oh well I'm not into competitions and doubt I'll ever see 120 quarry.

Same thing with my 6.5. Make sure whatever 6.5 you purchase that you get the RFD to continue with just 6.5 written on your license. My Creedmoor is just detailed a Sauer 404 6.5mm bolt action Rifle. Which means I can change it for a 1for1 on any 6.5 calibre. Otherwise your licensing office may want a full variation to swap between detailed 6.5 calibres.
For instance if I wanted to swap my .308 Winchester for another .30 calibre they would ask for a full variation plus good reason. Because it’s detailed as .308 Winchester on my licence. Might save you some money and time in the future.

??? Makes no sense I’m afraid.

A free one for one variation covers an exchange of any firearm for another one irrespective of calibre or type - you can even exchange a moderator (or a vacant slot for a moderator) for a rifle of x,y or z calibre without cost. Most can be achieved without further enquiry if you already have an established ‘good reason’, which may include pre-existing deer stalking, land available, etc.

Similar situation with my variation a while ago, it came back with 7mm . I got a 7mm Rem Mag, no problems.

Spendid if you’d just to like inform the Northamptonshire Licencing department of this all will be good...let me know how you get on
