Opinions on Bergara and Ruger American

I know plenty of people with HMRs and they do what they say on the tin. They're a hunting match rifle. Not sure about the carbon but the Steel barrel version handles 16x 8-12 shot PRS Stages one weekend and goes out on a stalk the next no problem.

Almost got one myself But ended up with a Tikka T3x Tac A1 and very quickly after chopped that in for an AI.

Just make sure you get hands on with one and like the stock. Worse case scenario if you don't like it it's at least a Rem700 action with plenty of available aftermarket stocks and chassis.

I've no experience with the Gen 2 Ruger but they appear to be liked online. I considered one not long ago but went with the Bergara Stoke .223 and put it straight into a chassis. Not to say the Ruger wouldn't have been a good choice, I just wanted something that I could put in a chassis and that had more aftermarket support.

Have you picked a scope out for them both yet?
To clarify, the Bergara is a 700 Remington "footprint"/inlet, not a Rem700 action.

Interested in this thread as am quite tempted by the ruger american gen 2 in 223, i have a hankering after a light weight point able .223 that will get carried on foot and shot from "field " positions. What would the equivalent Bergara offering be?

I’m curious about the gen 2 Ruger. I’ve been doing some gallery load development with a mate for his .308 and I’ve been curious about using a very short barrelled one using 175 grain cast bullets with a gas check over ten or eleven grains of Unique. Moderated it would be a good fox round if the barrel was about 12 or 14 inches but would need to be fairly close to ensure a clean kill!
Put it in a very light folding stock and it would be a very handy tool!

Sounds more like the requirements for a 300 Blackout....<shrug>
