Well that was intense!
Set out before light this morning.
As soon as I got out of the car I had a HS looking at me! Turned out to be a fluffy cat!
So I set off on a set route despite the wind not to ideal. I , still upset about the mis shot the other night wanted to try another tactic and go to the far end of a wood I've not frequented often this year.
Scanning all the time I'm just seeing the sheep.
It's now coming light and as I approach the boundary hedge, a spindly hedge full of holes and gaps I see in the thermal a hare, to my thoughts that is!
Then the hare started walking towards the hedge and suddenly I realised it's a fox!
Well all pandemonium broke loose.
I got the tripod set. Got the sp01 lit up but didn't need IR as it was just coming light by now.
Could I focus the thing on the hedge just 25 yards away? Err no!
At this point Charlie pops through the wire, takes a few steps towards me and trots back through the fence.
At this point I unclip the sp01 and stuff it in my pocket.
While I'm doing that I'm watching this dark red shape walk up the fence line, going right, but 30yds out from the fence.
I crank tha magnification up some find Charlie wait for the next gap and trip the set trigger.
Amongst the firearm I think I hear a thump also but cannot see anything so I frantically start scanning everywhere fully expecting to see a fox at full chat departing somewhere but no, nothing so I go take a look and there he is, taking a dirt nap. Phew. About a 70+ yard shot.
Result.
Turns out it's lower teeth weren't to good.

Going by its size, it was heavy, of good weight, it maybe the one that was harassing one I shot eating some bait last week. Looking at it's teeth now I know why it was after a pre chewed morsel!
A fantastic moment of intensity that only a hunter can appreciate.
Well done Charlie.
