Out last night.

I did the same a couple of nights ago, lifted slightly at the last second and no doubt trimmed some hairs as it skimmed over its back! It then charged me as I fumbled around trying to pick it up in the thermal.
Savages aren't they!
I was cool as a cucumber though.
Bugger bugger bugger....

Might switch it off!
Out last week with my mate with the 204 fox charges in to 90 yds bang and thump and through the thermal I’m informed it just tore off in the next field with nothing wrong with it and it just kept going I’ve missed says he and the torrent of verbal abuse started
Anyhow 15 mins passed pulled up sticks moved into the next field what’s laying up against the fence absolutely stono “the missed fox “
no apologies forthcoming as was expected.
The shot was perhaps an 1” back from the shoulder with exit 2” back the other side so it must have blew up the liver I guess and missed the heart must have been on a cant for the shot

if it was recorded I would have had the pi#*s taken for months, now possibly looking for new ( decent) tracker & spotter 🤣🤣🤣

went out tonight scanned for ages plenty rabbits about ,but I noticed what I thought was a rabbit but hadn’t moved gave a squeek and up it jumped must have been curled up asleep ! It ran straight towards me but then vered sharp left I think it must have scented me ,just before it went under the gate it looked back and it was lights out .
went out again but not even glimpse of one anywhere.

Well that was intense!
Set out before light this morning.
As soon as I got out of the car I had a HS looking at me! Turned out to be a fluffy cat!
So I set off on a set route despite the wind not to ideal. I , still upset about the mis shot the other night wanted to try another tactic and go to the far end of a wood I've not frequented often this year.
Scanning all the time I'm just seeing the sheep.
It's now coming light and as I approach the boundary hedge, a spindly hedge full of holes and gaps I see in the thermal a hare, to my thoughts that is!
Then the hare started walking towards the hedge and suddenly I realised it's a fox!
Well all pandemonium broke loose.

I got the tripod set. Got the sp01 lit up but didn't need IR as it was just coming light by now.
Could I focus the thing on the hedge just 25 yards away? Err no!
At this point Charlie pops through the wire, takes a few steps towards me and trots back through the fence.
At this point I unclip the sp01 and stuff it in my pocket.
While I'm doing that I'm watching this dark red shape walk up the fence line, going right, but 30yds out from the fence.
I crank tha magnification up some find Charlie wait for the next gap and trip the set trigger.
Amongst the firearm I think I hear a thump also but cannot see anything so I frantically start scanning everywhere fully expecting to see a fox at full chat departing somewhere but no, nothing so I go take a look and there he is, taking a dirt nap. Phew. About a 70+ yard shot.
Result.
Turns out it's lower teeth weren't to good.

Going by its size, it was heavy, of good weight, it maybe the one that was harassing one I shot eating some bait last week. Looking at it's teeth now I know why it was after a pre chewed morsel!
A fantastic moment of intensity that only a hunter can appreciate.
Well done Charlie.

Brilliant!
I love moments like that - adrenalin flows in torrents, fingers become thumbs and nerves shatter all at the same time! Then just occasionally you master them and the fox/deer is yours.
Bring it on Smelly!
