Out last night.

Well, I'm off to a rotten 2026 start... been feeling rough with a cold, but still putting a bit of bait out..

Had a drive through one side of the farm in the motor, nothing. Then had a look on foot on the other side in a favourite area, spotted one down a hedge, got against the hedge and gave a little whistle on the mouse squeaker, and a pair came barrelling up to me tight to the hedge, I'm thinking of a double before I've even shot one, also thinking shall I shoot the vixen which was following first to get her out of the way, thought don't be silly get the first one in the bag and worry about the 2nd later, big old dog, white bib, clean miss :scared:..

Talk about counting your chickens. That's the first I've missed in a coons age.

Complacency is a bad thing. Never mind there's always next time 👍

Yep, it is.
Foxes are a bit thin on the ground around me. I put a fair bit of effort in on my patch. I'm not sure how close it was, but it was close, no excuse.
Earlier on, I did a 190-yard feral off the sticks 🤷‍♀️

Talking of the percieved advantages of dabbing her muff on your, "I err dabbed her muff on the fringe of my coat. Vixen in heat beats Hugo Boss any time!" I usually hang my overtrousers on the back of the door to dry overnight,
I must have been banging her against my trousers after picking her up back to the truck, fecki'n Teckels went ballistic on my kecks.:scared:

I never mentioned any banging! I'm not getting involved with that!

Funny isnt it how we are all are doing a similar job with similar tools that we all use so different - what i mean is its funny to me how you dont zoom in - some zoom a bit in - and i now like a real big zoom

I opted for a few hours on the rats at the pig units with the pellet gun as the fog/mist started to roll in a bit, so foxing was going to be difficult with my modest NV/thermal combo.
It did account for 50 rats for 56 shots, tough going, but I hung out until I got to 50 kills.
The owner saved the day when he came out with a mug of strong coffee for me :)

Yep, i like higher base mag to begin with & if need be zoom too.

Out Sat night and thought I should leave the home reservation for once lol. We have some drainage work going on on our lane so have to park at the top of the drive so a nice 400m uphill walk to start off. Rifle in its bag and all the kit in a rucksack...get 100m up the drive and hear 2 dog foxes calling...and one about 100 yards from the house. Get rifle out, load rifle, get thermal and have a brisk jog back down the lane and down the bottom side of the barn. The fox comes out onto the field next door just on the 200 is yard mark...which is about where the rifle (which I had set up earlier in the day) was zeroed for...send a 58 gr .243 round away and dropped him on the spot ... good start and no 3

Headed off and over to the first of 4 farms. Set the caller up with one of the distress calls and within 30 seconds I could see a fox coming straight across the field. Set up on the sticks and managed a clear shot between the netting and the barb and dropped him about 70 yards away.

Drew a blank on the next 2 farms then fog stopped play as even with the thermal it was way too thick.

Tikka T3X Super Varmint with the XM50 thermal scope on top ,,,had it for a good few years and decided to give the Gaymoor a break and let it go back to being my stalking rifle lol
