#11 + 12 last night.

Went out for the hen killer. Got set up in next field over from hens and fired up the Foxpro again with the trusty cub call and literally within a minute had 2 foxes coming in.
Muted the caller and the nearest fox continued coming in and stopped literally 5 yds from the caller , a nice easy 50 yds shot
I quickly looked at the bottom of the field and the 2nd fox was still there , so quickly got on it and over it went too.
Turned out to be 2 vixens , one was pregnant with 6 marble sized cubs inside so a good one out the way and the hens are a bit safer for now.
Spoke to farmer and he's over the moon

#10 for me last night - it's been on the camera the last few nights and gradually getting more sociable (started appearing at 3am initially). I had a feeling last night would be the night - laundry basked in place in front of bedroom window with rear bag and thermal on top waiting to go. Fox popped out about 7pm just as I was sitting down for dinner so grabbed the rifle, got set up and all done before my dinner had a chance to get cold

I checked the camera today and another fox has been so I left more bait and got in the barn but after two hours I was just to cold. The wind whistles through there and despite the temp slowly rising mine was going down despite five layers including heated gilet, two pairs of trousers and heated foot warmers between two pairs of socks!!

#11 for me on Tuesday night, vixen over bait, parked the motor up and sat in that out of the wind, I've made a simple plywood shelf up to shoot off, it hooks over the door when the window is down. 97 yards.

#12 for me last night, again over bait, dog fox, came in at midnight on the dot. 65 yards.

Both were shot over different baited areas 'arf a mile apart with a road separating them, so I still have work to do, good job I've got the rest of this week off and all of next week, time to go shooting and have some fun.

#13 for me tonight, I went and sat over the bait that I knobbled the #11 vixen over, if I'm honest I got itchy feet sitting in the motor waiting for it to turn up on the bait and went and had a poke about with the rifle & sticks, knobbled a big old fella in a patch of wild bird cover not far from the bait, dispensed a 60 grain Vmax sleeping tablet with the Tikka. 94 yards.

Trekked up hill and down dale tonight for four hours. Pulsar was surprisingly clear for such a warm night but apart from sheep and their offspring not a thing did I see. Perhaps I have them all shot, again……

I hadn’t seen much in the last week but the bait started disappearing at the top of a gamecrop the last few nights. One evening in poor conditions I tried but as all I could see were eyes I reluctantly passed on the shot.
Tonight however conditions were better. 645pm saw me on the tailgate of the Hilux locked and loaded, batteries fully charged, been there, done that.
Obligingly shortly after 7 not 1 but 2 foxes appeared out of the wood and hurriedly made their way to where some minging chicken legs were lying. First one presented and sent one. Fcuk ! It ran off. At least it stopped 30 yards further and a second round was dispatched. It still, although obviously hit, made off. It made it into a grass field where a 3rd round, oh the waste !, finished the job. On inspection it would appear the bullet hit a stalk of something in the remains of the crop and burst. It was more like an explosion than a bullet strike on its shoulder.
2nd fox did a very fast exit not to return.

#13 for me, nature called and I just woke up for a pee... not having a scooby-doo what the time was I looked over the bottom field from the attic window with the thermal and bingo.. I spy what is hopefully the partner to #12 running about like a lost soul... I'm hoping it's the vixen to the pair.
Not such a shabby start to my holiday, bugger that I've come down with an awful cold, never mind I'll keep taking the tablets...

Got out with a friend yesterday, Ona a VERY cold night, managed to stop a jackal as the friend was getting ready to shoot another one (mating season they are constantly in pairs).

On a side note, does anyone know where I could find files of mating calls, animals in distress, etc? I tried searching the forum but found just one post from 2010, obviously the links are not working anymore.

I spotted this little caller and took a punt for the £4 incl. delivery.
It is about the size of a mobile and accepts free MP3 calls available on the web. Haven’t tried it as only just loaded calls this pm but it defo punches well above its weight and price.

I went out for a sit out last night, sat in two high seats at either end of a piece of woodland. Shot 1 dog fox from each seat.
First one came in to a mouth squeak. Stopped him at 30 yards and flattened him. Second dog came and looked In my direction from 150 yards but wind was wrong. So flatten him where he sat
