I haven’t put anything on here for a while but this was an odd one last night, I went to a new farm that my mate has taken over due to the owner passing away. Anyway I don’t really know the lay of the land so set up at the back of a shed with the caller out in a grass field, it wasn’t long before I spotted a fox about 600 yards away trotting towards the caller, now I expected it to get to the grass field and and come through a gate into the field about 120 yards from me, but no, it got to the corner and followed the fence up towards me, not wanting to take a shot through a fence I let it come, it stopped when it got to the end of the fence at which point I put it to sleep. A fair size dog for around these parts.
Now I knew it was close and guessed it to be about 18 meters, before I left I ranged it with the thermal and that said it was 14 yards, definitely the closest fox I’ve shot with the.243, about an hour later I had another do exactly the same but this one winded me and made its escape. So some daylight wandering needed here to find some better shooting positions. There was also a lot of roe so a few of them will be getting whacked
