Nothing seen. They must have full bellies. Stayed till.9pm. Got to be out as ìt gets light on cormorant patrol. Can't burn the candle at both ends nowadays.

Rabbit patrol last night , wasn't expecting much as no wind , full moon and -4 temp but nice to get some fresh air and exercise.
1st look through thermal and 2 sitting side by side at 80 yds , both knocked over
Continued up the hill and there was more rabbits about than I had expected.
Quite a few hedgehogs rooting about too , thought they would gave been tucked up given the conditions.
After a few hours and a full gamebag I called it a night.

After work I took the dog out with the 410 to find her a squirrel. I found two but never got a shot.
Secretly I wanted to sneak about this place because it is thick scrub and trees right next to some new born lambs. The opposite side from where I got #20 last week.
I didn't pick up any clues but did hear a pheasant go up into a tree not far away sounding very alarmed!
It was on my way back that when rejoining the route I came in on suddenly Jess's nose went into overdrive! She was doing her best to tell me which way it had gone and that it was definitely a fox!
I knew it was moving into the sheep and we had disturbed it so I carried on for home.
From a vantage point on the way back I could look down a 300yd field that Jess, still keen, was frantically scanning! In the failing light now I was convinced I could see a shape watching us! We left and I returned an hour later just in time to catch a large dog stalking into the lambs!

Had to miss last nights outing due to commitment, going tonight, hope it's a little warmer than of late.

#22 for me also after a few hours of cat and mouse around a smallholding with lambs.
The farm collie did a stellar job of keeping one away whilst I stalked the area.
I bumped in a big dog and shot him.
Then I had a stand off with another fox because I couldn't find a gap in the twigs!
Then I had to back peddle hundreds of yards after looking back only to observe a fox following our steps! That one disappeared over a hill.
The cat and mouse game continues with me later on trying to get a safe shot on a skylined fox watching the farm collie watching the fox!
Alas I couldn't get a backstop and eventually the fox got bored of the collie and slipped away.
A little tip I've come to realise on my return home is to put the moderator on the stove to heat it and dry it out while I make a brew.
Then screw onto the barrel to air the barrel.

Ha, how many fox shooter pass up fox shots when dependant cubs underground?
It’s a different situation if you have access to their earth and can take care of the cubs later.

The thing is with foxes is that if the mother is killed older siblings - family members will raise them usually - sometimes - same as pigeon where both parents care for the young

There were at least three foxes hanging around here. She has help! They are not there to play tag with the lambs although most are in.

Assuming the older siblings are old enough to aquire food.
Whenever we’ve shot foxes when out stalking, the gamekeeper has always said he’d take care of any cubs.

My personal thing. Stopped a few years ago. I know all the thing of others will raise young.
I also have terriers which I have been brought up with but finding a earth and if it's on your ground is easier Said than done.
My time will be spent making highseats and a small defender project next few months
