Out Of Town

I liked him

I particularly enjoyed one episode where he was ‘reviewing’ some modern art

He referred to it as ‘fake art’

Which - after a moment’s reflection

He described it as ‘fart’

Had me chuckling

It’s a tad breezy out so a day spent catching up on some household chores, and surfing YouTube videos of the great Jack Hargreaves.
When rural living was far less complicated.
I was a lad in primary school when I started watching him. Every lunchtime I would run home to make sure I caught the program in time, always tomato soup & chips on top, my favourite as a lad.

The episode of ferreting with the little Jack X Whippet catching a rabbit had me sold instantly on hunting dogs. What a gent Jack was :tiphat:

Aye, I loved all his programmes and then Old Country back in the day, simpler times then sadly not to return

Yes, lovely, simple times when folks were happy with their lot in life... my mother-in-law was a land girl during the war, she told me some good tales of those terrible days, they still found time to enjoy the little things despite the battle raging all around the world, she was musical and played the piano and accordian, so was at every dance going, spreading a little happiness...

I watched a few of the Bullseye TV episodes on YouTube over the last winter, blimey, I enjoyed watching Jim Bowen hosting the show, what an entertainer.

Jack was a true country gent, what he didn't know about Country Sports, Field Sports, the old/traditional style Country Skills and Country Ways wasn't really worth knowing!

He was making those programmes because he saw even then that the old ways were disappearing or nearly lost from memory.
His heart belonged in the traditional countryside, so he was rarely impressed with the modern world which had become so ignorant and indifferent to its ways.
Not all his knowledge was accurate, however. Given his scope, how could it be? And in any case, he knew that knowledge was nothing if you couldn't tell a good tale around it.

A very helpful wee film if you fancy a;- making a nice slender rifle sling that will 'bite' into one's shoulder and/or b;- wish to be reminded in how to make a purse net:

Smoked a pipe with him outside Paddington station, he'd ran out of tobacco so cadged a bowl of me, had a chat about falcon pipes (his and my favourite) and pipe smoking in general
I have several pipes but my falcon is always my "first choice" when I fancy a fill. I would have happily shared a bowl with Jack Hargreaves any day!

Hello, When family moved from West Sussex to old Berkshire then i had to put up a special TV Ariel for Southern ITV just to watch Out of Town on friday evenings
