Swap: Overseas hunt / activity swap - just testing the waters!

Hi all,

To be crystal clear I'm wouldn't charge any money for this, I'm just investigating the possibility of a trading what I can offer for a different experience in return. Any return offers would need to be free - just me tagging along in your non-work, day-to-day life as to be honest I can't justify spending money on non-essentials these days!

I'm 40 this year, and have been stalking and shooting in my own neck of the woods for more than 10 years now. I'd like to have a bit of an adventure in the next year or two as this element of life seems to have fallen by the wayside as family and generally being an adult seem to take priority! I'd like to test the waters to see if anyone out there would like to trade a few days of activities here in Cornwall for something similar overseas.

I live in a rural village in a beautiful part of the UK (Southwest Cornwall) with my wife and two young children. I lead an active lifestyle when I'm not working. Here's what we could get up to - we'd choose dates when I'm not working so I can make a proper job of hosting you. All stalking / shooting is over land where I have permission from the landowners to take a guest.
  • Stalking - I have access to deerstalking for roe deer all year over a few different areas of land within 10 mins of home
  • Shooting - Pigeon shooting all year, walked up pheasant / woodcock / snipe during the UK game season and small game - rabbits and squirrels too. None of this is 'formal' shooting and bags are always small. Just me taking the shotgun for a walk over local farmland and woods. Sometimes I'll fire 10 cartridges, sometimes none.
  • Surfing - The Atlantic coast is 20 minutes away where I've surfed for over 20 years. I can provide equipment and take you out (conditions dependent) if you'd like to give it a go. It's cold.
  • Fishing / Boating - I keep a boat (more of a family camper than a fishing boat) on the local estuary and we can fish for bass / mackerel / bream etc. The boat is also very comfy to sleep on if you want a night afloat. Some very nice pubs accessible by water too.
  • Spearfishing / scalloping
I should emphasise that here in Cornwall we have loads of brilliant activities but none of the stuff I have access to would be considered 'world class' shooting / surfing / fishing. Often I go out and come back empty handed. The deer aren't medal class, the waves aren't flawless but it's always good fun and the landscapes are, to my eye, as good as it gets.

I'm happy to send photos to anyone interested, but would ask that you drop me a private message as I'd rather not put a load of images online. I'd be very interested to hear what you could offer in return. There's no obligations here so if you just want to ask more questions that's fine. I'd also ask that you enter into this in the spirit of it and not be offended if I decide not to take you up on any offers. Like I said in the post I'm just putting the feelers out at this point.

No idea whether this post will yield a tidal wave of responses or tumbleweed - let's see!
Cheers,
Mike

It’s a great idea and something I have down in the past.

I hosted a guy from Spain for a few days on the pigeons and since then I have had 2 trips driven boar in Spain and an open invite for more.

Have also hosted people from Iceland for pigeons and with all people have become great friends.

Good luck

I've been very fortunate and done this a few times, hunted boar and Mouflon in Slovakia, Driven Hunt in Poland, hinds and goats in Scotland and Ireland for Sika, its a really nice way to experience new places and meet new people, I've only been caught out once, but made some fantastic friends. my trouble now is fitting the returns in. Good luck

Wished I was closer to my property, could have figured out a bear hunt
But if anyone ever wanted to bear hunt here in Ontario, let me know, have connections with outfitters that won't break the bank

I have done multiple "online" hunts with people, literally first time meeting would be at the camp, or half way up for a week of moose hunting. You get a feel for people during the online interactions, and with all my trips I only have some good stories to tell, no hunts ruined, but I may have been wrong on one or two people lol, I didn't realize taking too much pain meds caused you to crap your pants, that was one lesson I learned on one boondoggle

Fantastic opportunity for someone always like the idea of swap hunts no mad expenses something I'll have to do thst myself something offering sika reds fallow and goats in Ireland along with ruff shooting and salmon fishing

I don't think that ruff shooting is allowed these days....
