Owning a wood

It has been a long time since I wrote a few articles for them, but I remember that, at the time, they were a bit ‘anti hunting’

So you might swerve that topic with them

They might have changed of course

Cheers... Will bear that in mind.
Have an outside chance of a house with woodland and my wife wants to know the potential pitfalls...personally I only want to know the full sporting rights are included 😀

Depending on the area involved, one of the less obvious pitfalls is difficult and expensive mortgageability. One of the more obvious is that there is a large degree of political risk to buying anything larger than a cardvoard box these days - you din't know what new tax liability you may face and I wouldn't be surprised by Mugabe style landgrabbing by the time of the next election.

We could have our very own "Bush War" then...

I've seen a wood for sale and is 7.5 acres. It has a pond and a transient deer population. Would this be OK with a high seat and a .243 and .308? Does anyone else own a small woodland for shooting?

Thanks

For anyone coming across this three year old thread did the OP buy the land in the end? He was last on SD in May 2026. So it'd be nice to know?

Yes

It appears that Mugabe might be alive and well in the UK today

It would be the second time I lost my home to commie thieves

I have five plots of woodland, including 3 "allotment" plots which are part of a bigger wood. The other two are larger (not massive) whole woods.

Have been doing it for around ten years, if anyone has any questions, quite happy to offer a view.

I do thoroughly recommend it.
