Pard ds recall

what’s the crack then ? Scott country saying do not use the new pard and it must be returned to fix an ir malfunction?? Or is it just Facebook gossip?

Apparently some people think the IR illuminator is too powerful, so PARD have issued a firmware update that will reduce the maximum power of the IR and also improve the accuracy of the ballistic calculator at close range
The firmware can be downloaded from here
I could give you chapter and verse about how this situation arose and why, IMHO, it's no big deal, but apparently some people think i'm understating the problem, so i'll leave it there

Cheers

Bruce

Just noticed tonight using the Pard at close range, the calculater was a fair bit off. at long range though its spot on. How much do you think it will reduce the ir? Its awesome as it is.

If you're happy with the IR as it is, then don't install the firmware update - nobody is going to die and the scope will not burst into flames
Close range targets always seem to be more difficult for a ballistic calculator to work with and I suspect the height above the bore input may be the culprit
Playing around with that value may well improve the performance of the ballistic calculator at close range

Thanks Bruce. I don’t generally shoot under 100 yards so isn’t really an issue, just an observation. Think I will leave the update. Love it as is.

I’m interested as I’ve just started getting the itch for the DS?

Sounds like the rat bashers have been on the war path…. Short range white out & not being able to tell if it’s 10 yrds or 20????…..

Guessing max IR nails batt life too?

Where is Scott Country saying dont use. I have been in touch with pard. A shipment was sent to the UK distributer however before it arrived it was intercepted as that batch had possible ir issues. According to pard current models have no issues with the ir. I won't be updating as mine is fine. Not having a bc at ten yards is insignificant

I was going to be boxing it up tonight to send back tomorrow, everything working as it should and was just getting the hang of it.
Not sure what to do now

Did you buy it from Scott country did they send an email direct to you.
This is what pard sent me.
A batch of goods with potential IR problems has been intercepted and returned to the warehouse, and now all products sent to SGC are without problems

Aye bought from Scott country, they followed up with a phone call too which made me think it was serious.

That then contradicts alot of info direct from pard. The test results which are comprehensive are on the pard official fb site. Basically if the ir is left on full for 30 mins and its 5cm away from a piece of cotton it will burn. I suspect it will go back to Scott country they update firmware which will lower the strength of setting one on the ir. See below
We have updated the latest software of DS to reduce the intensity of IR to ensure the safety of IR, and the software of NV007SP has also adjusted the intensity of IR 1 accordingly. If you need it, you can contact me to get it, or you can contact your local dealer to get the latest software for DS35 and NV007SP.

I think il just send it back, I've no intention of shooting close range but would like to preserve the warranty.
Will let you know what am told when I get it back.

So were do we stand with warranty if we don’t send it back!! I’m only just getting it we’re I want it on my rifle (swapping mounts and rails to get the correct height) ,I’m over 20 rounds deep at paper,243 so not cheap,an I’ll probably never use the onboard ir ,very reluctant to remove it now

Not actually sure if not sending it back will affect warranty but I have bought tools in the past that got recalled and if they weren't returned for repair the warranty was void.
Right now my van has a recall, my trailer has recall and now this scope 😳

There is no recall as of yet my retailer has been onto sgc and they are happy that it doesn't need to go back.

Scott county are stating, please do not use the unit and return it immediately!! Sounds like they’re doing a recall to me although there not getting mine just yet and I’ll be using it tonight
