Parker Hale rings for a PH Custom No 4

G'day all, I know someone here will be able to help me with this as I have found a wealth of information on this site regarding the wonderment that is Parker Hale. I have a PH A29 sight rail on my PH Custom No 4 and want to fit a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40 dated 1979 to it. I went with the vintage optic to keep the rifle period correct and would like the correct PH rings. Tube size is 1". Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce.

I wouldn't bother with the Parker Hale rings they are not that good. Have a look for other suitable rings that are compatible with your rail. Sportsmatch are one make that immediately come to mind.

I have a set of rings and bases that might be correct period wise. I can’t remember if they were off my PH or my BSA CF2 but they are low with a recoil pin. Cover postage if they’re any good to you, you’re welcome to them.

A Parker Hale A29 sight rail has a 17mm dovetail (if l remember correctly) and the correct scope rings to fit this rail for a 1” tube with recoil stop would be the RA series, probably the RAHS 3 1” Low mount.

The Enfield Enforcer L42A1 .762x51 scope mounts were RAHS 3 1” tube, or if it was a 26mm scope tube RAHS 4.

These rings do come up for sale on eBay or just Google them and you should be able to find some.

I can’t help it if the correct period scope rings were huge, if you want a period/vintage rifle to be correct I’m afraid these are the ones.......and yes we could probably melt them down to make a plough :thumb: or two.

Thank you very much for the replies. Very helpful. Thanks Fosberry for your posts. I don't care what they look like or how much they weigh, I'm looking for originality to respect the rifle. I hope this image helps regarding the rail.

The top section of your mount is incorrect just Google Parker Hale A29 sight rail and you’ll see what l mean as being the correct top rail, that’s if you want to be 100% original !

Stick with what’s right for you and if that includes a rail plough who am I to disagree!

I only mentioned Conetrol mounts & rings as they are most certainly “period correct”.

The bottom section that’s screwed to the action is correct but the slotted top rail is not correct if you want to be 100% original......as l said Google it and you will see what l mean.
