Partridge under Bantams

Avoid silkies like the plague with partridge chick's you'll loose them they get trapped in the leg feathers and hung
I use game hens or game crosses clean legged birds

Hard feathered fowls instead of soft feathered ones, then.
Indian game hens are very good mothers. I wish I had kept the strains of gamefowl going that my good friend Jack Ripper gave me.

Indian game would be my.last breed of choice too clumsy and heavy they are ok with their own chick's but partridge chick's are so small ,they are more like bumble bees lol
The strain I had given to me was the proper stuff, not show birds, smaller than a Maran hen, I'm not 100% sure what part of India they were supposed to originate from.
The memory is not what it used to be.

We used to find them some of the best for English. Agreed, their legs are huge but they were so careful with them. Very much your personal preference thoough

I’m wanting to hatch some English Partridge under broody bantams this year, more for my young lad than anything but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve made a couple of A frame pens up. Has anyone found a certain breed of bantam is better than others? I was thinking 20 eggs under each bird. Any advice is welcome

Cheers
Ben
We've used brown leghorn bantams in the past, chose a hen with a history of rearing a good brood of chicks
