Paying farmers

I pay 50 per acre per year. And I can assure you all it won't be long before that will be the only way to shoot!

There is all sorts of md figures quoted for stalking ground. U really need to see the ground first and look for signs of deer, acces, ease of extrcation, ammount of dog walkers etc

Some farmers think it will be worth a fortune and expect a fortune while others are happy with a beast and a bottle at christmas. Likewise some stalkers grudge paying while others will pay silly silly money and not bat an eyelid.
Fc leases often work out about 100ish per roe in the cull, some of the bordes sika ground has went for telephone numbers recently. Seen a syndicate advertised recently i would guess will work our around £250-500 a deer with wot i expect they'll cull, a bloody crazy money for wot it is

I tendered for some extra land bordering my wee shoot, even having the ground next to it i thought was only worth 20p an acre and i thougt i was generous at that, land agent said it went for well over £1.20 an acre for folk to tran dogs on?? Bloody mental, last time i spoke to farmer he had never ever seen the folk either

Just for discussion.
$50 (25 sterling?) per acre will buy you land with pigs & goats to hunt, in western NSW & Qld. A game licence for around $50 will buy you access to about 4 million acres to hunt in NSW & similar in Vic on public land.

Thank you very much for telling me that, it makes me feel much better
Land here is £10,000 per acre with nothing on to shoot.!!
There seems to be a huge difference where you are in the UK.
I am talking about England where average people will pay thousands of pounds to go shooting. And of course it will get more expensive when land owners hear about there next door neighbours selling off the shooting for large amounts of money
From what I can remember from my school days Australia is a bit bigger than England and has slightly less people in it. So prices for shooting will be different!
Enjoy your shooting while you can because it won't be long before its for the rich only.

Crikey
If I had to pay that much I'd expect to be able to graze my sheep and cattle on there too!
Yes I hear what you say but don't forget I can remember when you could have bought North Wales for £10,000

same here only local shooting for local people.theres an 8 acre field bordered by woodland an its guided at £55,000:banghead:.so another 54.999 to go and its mine:old:

I said it earlier, I'd consider costs based on the numbers shot, not the acreage. I have some good roe stalking right at the back of my house. About 2000acres I've been on for about 20 years, roe only. A neighbouring farm is about 150acres and borders this ground for about 600m of shared fence. The owner lets me shoot this too. This area is one of the most productive bits on the ground and I've shot 4 medal class bucks on it and know there is quality beasts to be taken every year over and above cull animals. Realistically it could produce 12-15 roe per year off this one wee corner, between the main stalking ground and this bordering 150acres. The 150-acres based on size is worth very little. Based on what it can produce its worth a lot.....

Farmer is talking of price per deer shot not leasing shooting rights. I don't know yet how many are on the ground or even the size of the land. Would you say £35/40 per deer is a good starting point for negotiations.

Snap it up. There will be people queuing to pay more.

It's interesting that so many see deer as pests, rather than a desirable asset to the land.

You're right Sharkey and have you noticed what a totally different attitude people have in Scotland. We really are a completely different race in thought and actions.

If that had road frontage and water it would be well over £100,000 around here

I know of someone who pays 10.5k for shooting near our ground, he is that useless the owner has told the keeper to control them. And by all accounts the keeper has been kept busy as there was that many. Poor management!!!!

As been mentioned, loads of people looking for permissions and possibly might pay to shoot over land but will they be there to shoot the other pests if and when required, most of the permissions about where i am is for fox, rabbits pigeons and crows etc with a few for deer stalking of which i have a few but when i take into account the petrol, rifles, ammo, clothes and my time etc etc. I think the farmers get a good deal out of me and i get to do something i enjoy very much. I was out with one of the farmers and gave him some tips with the shotty and had a great time and looking forward to the next time out and he had already given me permission to shoot the deer, lucky yes i am but you need some luck in life.

Try so much per kilo per species in fur then take 2/3rds for you.

yoda it has road frontage and water going past and elictricfacicity as well.but the bigger plus is its a pigeon /pheasant magnet as well.ive known the woods for 30 years and it has NO deer yet but i could get by on hoping for now:thumb:
