It has been around since the late 1800s as there was a hunting reform in 1848 upon the unification of the German states whereby the farmers and others could then hunt hooved game and not only the lords.
The effect was a fast decimation of the game as was the case in the USA.
As I understand it, it was brought in to control this overhunting. I have read of people around WW1 that had it. It works well as most all of the population accept the need for it ref weapons safety/backstop appraisal/high seat building etc, it is known as the "green high school diploma". The resistance in the UK is of course "I have been doing it for years and will not pay for a course/qualification". Accepting grandfather rights to present stalkers with DSC1 say and requiring all newcomers to do one would make sense to me. Even the USA requires all born after say 1968 to do a hunter safety course albeit a very easy one. UK is way behind in the worlds hunter qualification requirements even though they do have draconian gun laws, strange.

WOW! Does it? The current system allows totally untrained people to stalk deer and potentially drag and transport carcasses with notifiable diseases across county boarders. That's anything but a perfect system IMO.
What about live diseased deer freely walking across county borders............

I posed the question as to see informative answers thank you.

so another question as to owner ship and purchasing and registration of firearms. As I understand it once having passed the course you can go ahead and purchase what you want without the need for FEO s as you have clearly demonstrated your ability and suitably to so??
So maybe in the future this could be the way forward and would create a system of fair licensing that is discussed frequently on this forum.
Another emotive question….. I shall open some popcorn

You can learn about all these things without having to do a formal course.........
Agreed pal,
I did as did so many others before us.
I was just thinking of the future of field sports in the UK with the constant chipping having something as solid as what Germany has might demonstrate to one and all some solidarity and the willingness to ensure we all sing off the same song sheet.
It might make it difficult for others to dismantle such a institution.
Knowing quite a few German hunters and discussing some of the issues they come against the one thing they all have in their favour is a solid background in their certification.
I’m not suggesting we all have to yet do another course but perhaps in the future this could be a better gateway to ensure the longevity as to what we hold dear.

Its like children in a play ground sometimes on here.

Who cares if someone wants to start up ANOTHER CLUB, and make themselves to be something they are not. Also any other made up course is a waste of time, it is not recognised. DMQ Level 1 and 2 are the industry standard and recognised in Europe.
Having had a recent client who took one of these courses he found out that its not worth the paper its written on and still at the time had not received his certificate. Which in the grand scheme of things is worthless.
