I despair again

I despair of trail hunting being used as a cover for fox hunting now that it's banned. Our local hunt last year were running hounds through back gardens on the outskirts of one village within the estate here. You mean to tell me that someone laid a trail through back gardens overnight?
Genuine trail hunting I don't have a problem with. I didn't have a problem with fox hunting when it was legal. Not my thing so I never followed, some hunt followers don't shoot. Each to their own.
It's the nudge nudge wink wink attitude that will get all trail hunting banned, unfortunately the legitimate ones as well. Bit like the semi auto centrefire rifle and the pistol ban, the few ruin it for the majority.

I use my dog for follow up on deer, the new pup is already being trained on animal scents.

I am sure if they ban the use of animal scents carrots will be an effective alternative.

We need to include that in any responses to the consultation.

I would advise anyone/everyone involved in working with dogs to reply to this consultation if you want to be able to continue training dogs on any animal scent. I find it particularly concerning that the following questions are in there:

13. Do you think that it is possible for dogs to be appropriately trained for specific purposes other than trail hunting without the use of either
animal based scents or artificial scents which mimic an animal based scent?

Please explain the reasons for your answer and, if applicable, explain the circumstances where you think it necessary to continue to permit the use of such scents in training dogs.:

14. Do you think that it should remain lawful, in certain circumstances, for animal based scents, or scents which mimic animal based scents, to
be used in training dogs for certain purposes?

Got a runner- either deer or game? Need to track invasive, injured or escaped animals? Good luck training them if you can't use real or imitation scents. Welfare issues, wastage of good meat issues. That ferret detection dog used for conservation of seabirds on whichever island (BBC the other day) couldn't be trained either if this comes to pass.

This is besides the fact the ban is obviously about attacking what remains of a British heritage activity at the behest of a bunch of fanatical left wing thugs who want to destroy rural life. If Labour actually cared about animal welfare they would require all imported meat and animal products to be reared in accordance with UK standards and introduce mandatory labelling of stun vs. non-stun slaughter and several other issues before looking at trail hunting, for which they could simply just enforce the existing legislation.

Your comments are very, very close to those of the sabs. Very close.
You say you didn't have a problem with fox hunting when it was legal but do now….. when the law that brought it in was a populist action by the war criminal that was Bliar. How many prosecutions have been brought and then how many were successful against the many, many thousands of days legal trail hunting

You do realise the antis view us in exactly the same way they view fox hunters and will step up their efforts to get shooting banned if they succeed in getting trail hunting banned

Can't say I'd miss the Hunt tbh but it's the tip of the iceberg and what's next. Whilst they are such a visible target for antis it takes a lot of the heat off the rest of the field sport community

I keep saying this. We should all thank fox hunting for the amount of time it ties the extremist antis up year after year.
