This major shift of shot gun licensing is just another nail in the coffin of death of firearm ownership and simply because firearm owners are an easy target. We are a legal, law abiding group within society but that doesn't count. .Governments/bureaucracy know who, where we are and who's got what and where/what we use them for. Balance this against the crooks/law breakers who are loose in society doing as they please. Government doesn't know what firearms they have or where they will use them. Unlike us who have their firearms safely secured the criminals do not. How ever government does know what they will use them for and against who. They use them on us, the population of the country without licences and without fear etc. Governments know they have semi - automatic firearms...something we cannot and do not have. Where they use them are places filled with people and they are used to hurt/intimidate the community at will, they use them to steal what ever they like.
Why can't the goverment leave the status quo as is so people can keep/use their shot guns as they have done without issue. What do they gain except we are penalised by more onerous rules and they gain animosity from us. As for the crooks...they don't have firearms... they have weapons. When tightening the rules law makers fail to understand a fundamental difference between us and the illergals. We have firearms and the illegals have weapons. Concentrate on the weapon wielding thugs and leave us and our our firearms alone. This seems to be the common sense option but ...governments are run by the ballot box and a media headline telling us how good they are. Harrumph....
In an odd/unusual sort of way this is a brilliant example of rulers displaying common sense. France in WW2 France was occupied by the German Army and these occupiers allowed rural people to keep their shotguns. They didn't see them as weapons and treated them as such. If an occupying hostile, foreign army can see the difference between firearm and weapon why can't any democratically governments do the same.

If you lived within Hampshire FLD area you wouldn't ask such as crass question. Shotgun certificates conditioned for target shooting only, ammunition limits, restrictions to land approved by the Chief of Police only, good reason for each and every shotgun, 1-4-1 variations, etc. don't we have enough pettifogging nitpicking from FLDs ignorant of the law already?

Given what can be most charitably described as clumsy utterances by BASC about lead projectile bans and shooting sports being dangerous to pregnant women I'd be happier if they stayed out of this.
must be worth sending direct messages in the POST , saying why its not a good plan to roll with . Things like having to make home visits to applicants , there is a real volume of shotgun owners and shotgun owners tend to keep a lot more items to check on the RFD visits. This will mean more time on top of the extra FEOS we would need to recruit and train AND PAY !

Petition: Do not merge section 1 & 2 regulations on firearms licenses
Keep section 1 firearm & section 2 shotgun licensing separate. I think this would help to protect law-abiding owners, the shooting industry, & rural communities. Policies should focus on real public safety issues without burdening responsible citizens or damaging heritage & livelihoods.petition.parliament.uk

That's all very well but at what point are BASC going to make life more difficult for us with their apparent attack of foot in mouth disease?
